Our Italian football expert Daniele Fisichella has previewed Venezia vs Napoli as second from bottom Lagunari host Antonio Conte’s side.
The Partenopei are coming off a vital 2-1 victory against Fiorentina, thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Giacomo Raspadori. This success ended a five-match drought without victory and kept them within just one point of Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
On the other side, the hosts have managed to string together a positive run with a third consecutive unbeaten match, drawing against Lazio, Atalanta and Como.
Italy, Serie A, Sunday, March 16th, 11:30 (UK)
The victory against Fiorentina was a tale of two halves.
Napoli dominated but only went into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead, courtesy of Lukaku’s 10th goal of the campaign.
However, after the break, their tempo dropped, and they had to withstand significant pressure, notably after Raspadori doubled their lead.

Currently in a tight race at the top, Napoli’s attacking inconsistencies remain a concern. They’ve managed 45 goals this season, averaging 1.61 goals per match, which pales in comparison to Inter’s and Atalanta’s scoring records.
Conte will be aware that improving this statistic is essential if they want to overtake their competitors.
Looking ahead, Napoli’s fixture list seems favorable, with the only notable challenge being an away match against Bologna.
Nonetheless, victory in such matches should not be taken for granted, as failing to close out games like they did against Fiorentina could prove costly.
After the injury of Filip Stankovic in February, goalkeeper Ionut Radu has proven to be an astute signing, helping Venezia with several impressive performances.
Eusebio Di Francesco have struggled this season, securing only three wins, and are currently sitting 19th in the table.
But with six of their final ten league games to be played at home, Venezia side has a foundation to potentially climb out of the relegation zone.
However, with home games against teams such as Lazio, and AC Milan coming up, maintaining their form, as they’ve only lost one game by more than one goal margin, will be crucial.
Underlying expected goals (xG) data suggests Venezia should be in a better position in the standings, indicating potential for a late-season surge.

Venezia vs Napoli Prediction odds via bet365 as at 13:35, March 11th, 2025. Odds may now differ.
Venezia’s manager Di Francesco should confirm the same starting XI that drew with Como. The only doubt is between Marcandalli and Schingtienne in the back three. Former Napoli winger Zerbin will play on the right hand flank, Oristainio and Maric will be the two strikers. John Yeboah is suspended.
Antonio Conte is likely to stick with the 3-5-2 system and the same men that started the game against Fiorentina last Sunday. Billy Gilmour will play his third consecutive match from the first minute and will support Lobotka in the middle of the park.
Zambo Anguissa, Pasquale Mazzocchi and David Neres are still sidelined because of injuries.
Venezia possible starting lineup:
Radu; Marcandalli, Idzes, Candé; Ellertsson, Perez, Nicolussi Caviglia, Duncan, Zerbin; Oristanio, Maric.
Napoli possible starting lineup:
Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno; Politano, Gilmour, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola; Lukaku, Raspadori.
