Tottenham vs Man United Bet Builder Tips: Thursday, April 27th

Bettingexpert is on hand, once again, to provide Tottenham vs Man United bet builder tips at a time when either side is jostling for a spot in the Premier League’s Champions League spots at the upper end of the division. Given the circumstances that surround the fixture, this should be an interesting evening in North London.

In this article:

Tottenham vs Man United Preview

England, Premier League, Thursday, April 27th, 20:15 (UK)

The 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle United seems the best place to start. Spurs, without as much as a whimper, hobbled out of the opening twenty minutes of their game on the weekend, having conceded five strikes in quick succession. Battered and bruised, Cristian Stellini reverted to a 3-5-2 system labelled as drably defensive and less than pleasing on the eye – a sidestep from Conte’s managerial reign rather than a revamp of proceedings in North London.

Fast forward to Monday afternoon, Stellini has been cast aside following the bitterly swallowed pill at St James’ Park. Ryan Mason has been called upon to deputise in the absence of a permanent manager. He has done so before, but this time it feels like a real hospital pass from the powers-that-be at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs fans are disillusioned, the Tottenham players are now seemingly in the same boat. And next up is a Premier League-sized task in the shape of a visiting Manchester United side reeling from a Webley semi-final FA Cup victory. It needed 120 minutes and penalties to overthrow The Seagulls, who were not quite in full flight in the capital. Still, it was a job well done in the end for Erik Ten Hag as Victor Lindelof comfortably dispatched the winning penalty.

That should do morale in the Manchester United camp a favour following misery in Seville in the Europa League and a newly bustling medical department at Carrington. Can they dust themselves down and deliver a performance against a hapless Spurs team in need of a shot in the arm? Potentially. However, there simply has to be a response from those filling the home changing room. Right?

Tottenham vs Man United Stats & Facts

  • The 6-1 defeat to Newcastle was borne from a healthy expected goals total in Newcastle’s favour: 3.74 vs 1.05.
  • No team have beaten a Premier League opponent more so (39) than United have beaten Spurs.
  • The last time Ryan Mason took charge of Spurs was for a seven-game period in 2021: W3/D0/L3
  • United havent won four Premier League games in a row without conceding since Alex Ferguson was at the helm in 2013. They’re on track to do so here with a win to nil.

We’ll see a response from Tottenham. Whether that response will be enough to muster a point or three is a different question entirely, but I think there will be a noticeable upturn in terms of fighting for the shirt. That’s not saying much, in fairness, as there was little to nothing on show in that first half in Newcastle.

Following that trail of thought – Spurs to receive two cards in their hunt for joy out of the game, with one coming after the half-time whistle, gets us to 1.53 to begin the bet builder. The available statistics at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season backs up the narrative of needing to respond: 4.44 match total cards per90, with 2.38 forced by Spurs and 2.06 borne from visiting opponents’ over-exuberance.

Given the above and the fact that Manchester United averaging 2.33 cards per90 when travelling away home. Including over 0.5 Manchester United cards nudges the bet builder to 1.70.

I’m using bet365 for this builder. You’ve got plenty of freedom when it comes to the cards markets, as evidenced by the above selections. Breaking cards over/unders down by team and half will give us a nice boost to the odds.

Last but not least, I’m dipping my toe into the 1X2 market. There are too many question marks around both Spurs and United at present to be bullish on one or the other. The 120 minutes at the weekend in the legs of this United team amidst a hectic schedule casts doubt over their capabilities here. Likewise, you’d be brave to get behind Spurs after what they served up on the weekend.

When all is said and done, I can see a 90-minute period where both sides are happy with a point in the hunt for top four, before turning the focus to the weekend’s fixtures. If the two teams present as sluggish with a do-not-lose type of approach on Thursday, the draw at 3.60 may prove to be a live runner.

Tagged onto the bet builder? That gets us to a 6.00 shot.

  • Both Teams to Receive A Card
  • Over 1.5 Spurs Cards
  • Over 0.5 Spurs Cards in Second Half
  • Match Result: Draw

Bet Builder odds: 6.00

Odds via bet365 as at 14:00 April 25th 2023. Odds may now differ.
