Cambridge United vs Shrewsbury Town: Taming of the Shrews frontline set to continue at the Abbey
England, League One, Saturday October 14th, 15:00 (UK)
Mark Bonner was furious with his side after conceding two early goals in their 2-1 defeat at Burton on Monday night. Labelling their start as “ridiculous”, it was clear he had left his players in no doubt about his thoughts in a half-time dressing down.
A much better performance followed in the second half, but the U’s had already left themselves too much to do due to “not playing with aggression” and with “no penetration”. I expect the message will have been rammed home in the days following that defeat and before kick-off here to ensure we see a response.
They face a Shrewsbury side that has scored just one league goal on the road all season and have drawn a blank in each of the last three. In fact, they have only scored five goals across all venues in their opening 11 League One games, which is the lowest total in the division.
However, with a defence that has only been breached 12 times, only five clubs in the third tier can currently better that. As a result, “No” in the Both Teams to Score market is the play.
That is a wager that has landed in all five of the Shrews league road trips. Matt Taylor’s side has seen both teams score in just one of their 11 league games overall and in none of their last eight.
This is also a bet that has won in four of Cambridge’s six home games so far and in seven of their 11 League One fixtures. Combined, BTTS “No” has copped in 17 of the two sides 22 games (77%).
It is, therefore, surprising to see this market priced as a “pick-em” scenario with both outcomes available at 1.91. With odds implying a 52% probability, No in Both Teams to Score represents big value.

Millonarios vs Junior: Hosts to continue climbing Colombian ladder
Colombia, Primera A, Sunday October 15th, 02:20 (UK)
Millonarios’ dreadful away form has seen them fall short of expectations domestically. However, it’s been a completely different story in front of their own fans. They’ve lost just once in their last 25 home matches, which can be forgiven, considering they had nine men after 47 minutes. They still managed to score with eight outfielders, which shows you how impressive they have been on home soil.
Three victories at Estadio El Campin on the bounce puts them in a comfortable position to progress to the next round in Primera A – while their opponents have some catching up to do.
Junior have a strong record on the road, but a 2-1 defeat to 17th-placed Chico before a dull 0-0 with 19th Jaguares de Cordoba hasn’t filled me with confidence that they can trouble Millonarios on their own patch.
The goals have been spread about the home team, with no standout leader in the goal tally this season. However, Leonardo Castro, who scored 24 goals in 42 appearances in 2022 for league rivals Pereira, has scored in his last two matches.
The 31-year-old has eight in 29 appearances for his new club but has been showing glimpses he’s edging back to his best. He can be the difference on Sunday, helping his side claim all three points once more.

Ukraine vs Macedonia: Attacks on Top in Crucial Clash
Europe, Euro 2024 Qualifying, Saturday October 14th, 14:00 (UK)
Ukraine faces a battle to qualify from this group. They currently trail England by six points and are behind Italy on goal difference. Serhiy Rebrov’s team were dominated in their last match against the Italians and will be looking to bounce back against Macedonia with the group finely poised.
Macedonia are level on points with both Ukraine and Italy at this stage. However, both of their wins so far have come against Malta, the whipping boys of the group, so they will need to up their game against their rivals for the qualification spots.
Both teams have scored in four of Ukraine’s last five international matches. They have only managed to keep one clean sheet in their previous six. That was in their 1-0 win over Malta.
Macedonia’s matches are averaging the 5th most goals per game throughout qualifying. Blahgoja Milevsi’s men are scoring an average of 1.4 goals per game but conceding 1.8. This is a crucial fixture for them, and I expect them to put their best foot forward. Both teams have scored in their last two encounters with Ukraine.

Hungary vs Serbia: Can Saudi Stars Rescue Serbia?
Euro 2024 Qualifiers, Saturday October 14th, 19:45 (UK)
Serbia confirmed they’ve got problems in defence as they were defeated 2-1 last month in the reverse fixture. The Serbs have conceded in all their last four games and have only kept two clean sheets in the previous ten games. Dragan Stojković’s men can’t afford to return from Budapest with zero points as they’ll host Montenegro next Tuesday in the tie that will decide who qualifies directly for Euro 2024.
With Dusan Vlahovic sidelined because of injury, Serbia will once again rely heavily on the men playing in Saudi Arabia: Sergej Milinković-Savić and Aleksandar Mitrović.
The visitor’s away form is decent; in fact, they’re unbeaten in seven games, but this Saturday evening, they’ll be tested by an extremely well-organised Hungarian side who top Group G with a game in hand.
The Hungarians, under Marco Rossi, have developed into a very dangerous side to play against: they’re unbeaten in eight games, and in the last couple of years, they have taken some illustrious scalps, such as Germany, England and Poland.
The hosts are yet to concede at home during these qualifiers and will be led by Dominik Szoboszlai, who has hit the ground running in the Premier League.
However, they’re the lowest scorers (only seven goals) between the teams that occupy the first spots in the qualifying group.
