Sarina Wiegman deserves to be in the conversation for the men’s team managerial role - bettingexpert Insights
The Lionesses will be up against Spain this Sunday in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, looking to add the biggest prize in the game to their European Championship win last year.
England coach Sarina Wiegman has rightly earned a lot of plaudits for her success with the Lionesses, and the FA chief executive, Mark Bullingham, as per ESPN, has said that she would be considered as a candidate for the managerial position of the men’s team if Gareth Southgate was to move on.
We got in touch with former Lionesses striker Lianne Sanderson who fully supports Bullingham’s statement and mentioned that she’s never been sure why it took the FA such a long time to make a statement like that.
In this article:
I’m Not Sure Why It Took So Long For A Statement Like That
The former Arsenal striker expressed her thoughts, saying that she was never certain why the FA didn’t make a statement like that earlier.
She shared that she’s been asked this question multiple times whether a female coach can go into the men’s game, and her response has always been it has to be the right person, like Emma Hayes.
“I’m not quite sure why it’s taken that long for a statement like that to come out.”
“I get asked that question all the time – ‘will there be a female coach that goes into the men’s game?’ and I say it has to be the right person who’s good enough. Not just because someone is a female.”
“I’ve always said that Emma Hayes can do it.
Sarina Wiegman’s Resume Indicates That She Deserves The Right To Be In The Conversation About The Men’s Job
Sanderson expressed her support for the statement that Bullingham made and believes that with the resume that Wiegman has, it makes sense that she is in the conversation.
Winning two European championships (one with the Netherlands and one with England) and making it to two World Cup finals is a stellar CV, and Wiegman deserves to be in the conversation.
“Sarina Wiegman, nothing phases her and it makes sense to me; why not. At the end of the day, if you go on to win a World Cup and you’ve won a European Championship, something the men have never been able to do, then you absolutely deserve the right to be in the conversation.”
“Because what had Gareth Southgate done before he got the England job? Nowhere near what Sarina Wiegman had done. I like Southgate, and he’s taken England to a good spot, but Sarina Wiegman should absolutely be in the conversation.”
