QPR vs Reading Bet Builder: Friday, October 7th

We’ve got QPR vs Reading bet builder tips in the Championship this Friday night. Two in-form teams meet in the capital on Friday night desperate to keep their impressive start to the season hurtling towards playoff conversation in 2023. A win here will move the victor up into the top two, something that either fanbase may not have expected in the summer.

QPR vs Reading Preview

Friday, October 7th, 20:00 (UK)

Three head-turning victories in four Championship outings provide the impressively sculpted backdrop to QPR’s Friday night appearance on our television screens. The midweek 0-1 win on the road at Sheffield United was perhaps the most impressive as the Blades slumped to their first defeat in eleven games. Not only is it a rarity for The Blades to lose at home, but it’s also just the second home loss of Paul Heckingbottom’s reign.

As a result, Mick Beale’s Rangers outfit is purring, sat in fourth and poised to kick on in terms of a playoff push very much in its infancy. Similarly, their opponents in the second tier’s first fixture of the weekend are enjoying a comparable campaign. However, considering the bleak outlook that consumed the club in the summer, Reading’s overachieving start to 2022/23 commands respect.

Paul Ince has his Reading side performing in a manner that is a million miles away from the expected basement, season-long relegation scrap. With their newfound presentation, QPR vs Reading is now a match-up that’ll affect the top end of the table rather than Royals fans pencilling in a 90-minute slog in the capital. A 1-1 draw with Norwich, nearly as impressive as QPR’s showing in Sheffield, ensures both sides enter the weekend with an exceptional result under their belt, too.

A winner on Friday evening will have the victors enter the top two before a ball is kicked in anger elsewhere in the division. It’s a wondrous start to life for QPR’s new face in the dugout, having got his feet under the table in the summer. But nevertheless, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows at Loftus Road.

There are two notable injury concerns to ponder in blue and white. First, Beale mentioned after the Blades excursion that Christopher Willock, one of QPR’s leading lights, felt something in his hamstring. That’s a real concern as the Rangers forward missed from March to the start of the season post-operation with the same issue.

Furthermore, in the latter stages of their visit to Sheffield, Seny Dieng was unable to take goal kicks. The home fans may have thought it was a rather creative time-wasting ploy, but the shot-stopper reported an issue with his thigh – the same injury that sidelined him in the previous campaign.

QPR vs Reading Stats & Facts

  • Tyler Roberts ranks fifteenth in The Championship for shots per90 with 3.16, making him the most shot-hungry player this season set to feature on Friday night.
  • Reading haven’t overly impressed away from home this season (15th), but their home form has them top of The Championship’s home table. Similarly for QPR, away form puts them in second place in the away standings, yet at home they find themselves in 13th.
  • QPR are the sixth-highest scorers in the division with 17 goals in 12 matches.
  • Reading are the only side in the top six that has conceded more than they have scored in 2022/23.

QPR vs Reading Bet Builder

The one goal conceded in QPR’s most-recent four matches is something Beale will be thrilled with, alongside knowingly having the talent in forward areas to cause any Championship side problems. With Willock missing out wide, Lyndon Dykes looks like the next in line to benefit. Ilias Chair should be pushed out into a wider role opposite Tyler Roberts on the right wing. That’s not a forward line devoid of goals, despite the potential Willock absence.

Given the current displays from either team, it’s challenging to pick a side definitively. However, with home comforts likely benefiting QPR alongside the run they find themselves on, I’m veering towards the hosts. At 1.80, it’s something I’m getting on side, given the trajectory under new management.

To accompany the straight win, Tyler Roberts is next to bolster the bet builder. On loan from Leeds with plans of returning to the Premier League one way or the other, Roberts will be aiming to lay his mark on the televised fixture. However, we’re not hanging out hat on him doing something out of the ordinary here by opting for him to hit three shots – his 3.16 shots per90 total underlines that with aplomb.

Admittedly the over 1.5 shots is what I wanted to bolster the builder price, though bet365 have failed to release Roberts’ markets at the time of writing. Regardless, the evens price for Roberts to be a busy boy has legs and is something that reared its head away to Bristol City two games ago.

In Sheffield, Roberts recorded two shots in 66 minutes versus the league leaders – not a bad return. The 20 shots from 6.3 90s has this down as an attractive position to take. If QPR can take this game by the scruff of the neck in front of home support, hopefully, they can build on Reading’s 11.08 shots conceded per90 in the Championship.

  • QPR Win
  • Tyler Roberts 3+ Shots

Bet Builder odds: 3.60
