Man City vs Inter Preview

Champions League Final, Saturday, June 10th, 20:00 (UK)

Manchester City have carved out safe passage to the final of the Champions League. They’ve done so by putting the very best European Cup team on the continent to the sword over two legs. It was straightforward, and it was swift, and it came without reply in Manchester.

The 4-0 scoreline represents the kind of dominance over their Spanish counterparts better than I ever could. Thirteen shots to Real Madrid’s solitary attempt in the first half robustly set their stall out, as Pep’s men headed into the break leading 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.

You could almost be forgiven for forgetting about Manchester City’s 115 financial irregularities ruled by the Premier League earlier in the season; such is the mesmerising brand of football on display. It almost looks easy – straightforward, if you will – men against boys.

The calls of financial doping will echo, reverberating around the world of football until it casts a substantial shadow over Manchester City’s course to the final, and rightly so. The ruling was unlike anything we’ve seen before us, sharing similarities with City’s levels on the pitch. As a collective, they are undoubtedly one of the best ever to do it.

But it’s not all about City. Istanbul will welcome two sides to town in June, although the discourse around the event will be heavily Manchester City-orientated. The bookmakers have the English side priced at 1.44 favourites to outmuscle and outmanoeuvre Inter Milan (7.00). That’s even shorter than Manchester City’s showdown with Real Madrid at the Etihad. Inter are not expected to lay a glove on this rampaging City side.

They’ll be just another body on the pile, strewn across the likes of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Real Madrid. “Inzaghi’s Italians have no chance”, you’ll hear the majority say – both pundits and the average fan alike. In the end, they’ll probably be right; such is what we now witness in Manchester week after week.

The addition of Erling Haaland has certainly dragged Manchester City to a level where they’re hard to contain. Beating Real Madrid made it a 23-game unbeaten stretch for the treble-chasing Citizens, a period where they have overseen 67 goals and conceded just 13.

Not only that, but they’ve scored 4, 3, & 7 goals in the three Champions League knockout games on their own patch this season.

Haaland helped himself to 21 of those strikes in the current 23-game unbeaten run. It’s not quite one goal every game, but we’ll let him off. The Dane boasts 12 goals in 10 Champions League showings in City blue, alongside 36 in 33 Premier League matches. That is ludicrously remarkable. How does Inzaghi even approach keeping him under wraps?

Perhaps he’ll take comfort from Antonio Rudiger’s first-leg performance in Spain. Haaland was kept quiet on the whole, largely thanks to the former-Chelsea central defender employing a rather touch-tight man-marking approach for significant periods.

Man City are clinically astute in a system that appears second nature to the playing staff. It was too much for Real Madrid and will prove too much for Arsenal in the race for the Premier League crown. It won’t be what Manchester United fans want to hear, but that fondly-remembered treble win in 1999 is in real jeopardy, too.

Let’s be honest. It’ll be a surprise if Ilkay Gundogan saunters up the Wembley steps for anything other than an FA Cup trophy lift above his head. Not to worry, though, United fans. Another oil state is seemingly delicately poised to take the reins at Old Trafford if the Glazers allow it. It may even provide Pep with some competition here on English soil.

Man City vs Inter Facts

  • Every Champions League-winning team for the last decade have had a Croatian player in their ranks. The only Croat set to feature? Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic.
  • Erling Haaland’s 12 goals in this season’s Champions League is four clear of Mohamed Salah in second.
  • This is the first Champions League final that Inter Milan have been a part of for 13 years.
  • Inter had to navigate a group stage consisting of both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
  • Ruben Dias was the only outfield Man City player who failed to have a first-half shot against Real Madrid in the second leg.

Man City vs Inter Bet Builder Tips

Where to start with Inter vs Man City? For me, it’s pretty straightforward. I’m well aware that Inzaghi is building a reputation in Italy for becoming a cup specialist with his teams. And, of course, we should approach showpiece finals with caution. But how can anyone back against Manchester City right now with any real confidence?

The 6.50 for an Inter victory in 90 minutes on bet365 will tempt many, I’m sure. I get it, considering the reasons above. However, I’ll be looking elsewhere. We’ll be using bet365 for our bet builder. It is, by far and away, the best bet builder available for punters – especially for the big games.

We’ve got a plethora of options to pick from, including player shots, goal kicks, free-kicks, throw-ins etc. The list goes on. There’s not an online bookmaker elsewhere that offers such an extensive selection in a bet builder format that allows you to combine them however you fancy.

For the FA Cup Final, I proposed a three-pronged bet builder here on bettingexpert that will look eerily similar to what takes my fancy in the Champions League. As a starting point, let’s go with a Manchester City win and Under 4.5 Goals.

City are 1.45 to win in 90 minutes for a reason. Pep’s outfit is swatting aside whoever poses the next obstacle, and they’re doing so with seeming ease. A Manchester Derby in an FA Cup Final? No problem. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich over two legs? Again, no worries whatsoever. This leg is eligible for the bet365 Early Payout feature. If City

Manchester United fans may not want to hear it, but the treble is on. It looks more likely following each 90-minute period that passes. The Under 4.5 goals would have paid out in the FA Cup, too. The thought process behind such a pick in the final is that Inter Milan will look to frustrate and contain for as long as possible. Inzaghi will plan to keep City at bay for a more prolonged stretch than the 12 seconds which Manchester United managed before Ilkay Gundogan’s sumptuous volley.

Nevertheless, despite that early strike, City kept United’s and any high quality chances to a premium, ending the game with just three goals. I predict a similar outcome here, with City similarly controlling the game. So, that gets us to 1.75. It’s not quite meaty enough for a bet builder article.

Next up, let’s get behind Erling Haaland. For him to hit three shots at goal in 90 minutes, we can drag the bet builder price up to a 2.50 offering alongside the Manchester City win and Under 4.5 Goals.

Erling Haaland recorded the highest shots per90 figure (4.55) out of everyone who played at least 5.0 90s in the current campaign. The 12 goals in City blue also place him at the top of the standings. It’s a goal return that suggests that he may well be the man who holds the key to City success in Istanbul. Let’s hope his Champions League season trends continue.

  • Manchester City Win
  • Under 4.5 Match Goals
  • Erling Haaland 3+ Shots
