Central Coast Mariners vs Brisbane Roar: Hosts to tame their guests
Australia, A-League, Saturday, January 27th, 08:45 (UK)
A trip down under takes us to the Central Coast Stadium where the hosts are in superb form. Having collected 13 points from their last five matches, the Mariners have carried themselves into fourth spot – just four points behind Wellington Phoenix.
One of the reasons for their success is Colombian forward Angel Torres, who recently scored a last minute winner to beat Melbourne City at home.
Unbeaten in their last seven matches in front of their fans, the Mariners have also scored an impressive 17 goals.
Their opponents, however, are on a downward spiral. Collecting just three points from their last five, as well as conceding 18 goals, they are the least in form team across the A-League.
That’s now five defeats from their last six matches, which includes an 8-1 hammering last time they were on the road vs Melbourne City.
These two sides clashed back in late December, and it was the Central Coast Mariners who cruised to victory 3-0 – with Torres finding himself on the scoresheet in that fixture, too.
A home win looks to be a positive way to kickstart the acca, and more misery to be piled on Brisbane who are lacking any kind of roar at present.
- Predictions: Central Coast Mariners to Win (TRACKED BET)
- Best Odds: 1.60
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 9/10
River Plate vs Argentinos Jrs: New season, same results
Argentina, Copa De La Liga Profesional, Sunday, January 28th, 22:00 (UK)
Within a blink of an eye, Argentinian domestic football is back and River will be hoping to replicate last year’s runaway success.
The champions may have lost Nicolas de la Cruz to Flamengo, but the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Esequiel Barco and Nacho Fernandez remain and will once again play a big part in 2024.
It’s important to note their first opponents, Argentinos Jrs, will be out without their young striker, Luciano Gondou, who is currently away on international duty. The 22-year-old came into the fold last campaign and was highly impressive, and one Argentinos Jrs will rely on once again.
Witn his absence, Argentinos Jrs lack a cutting edge in front of goal and River should have enough depth to start their campaign off with a victory.
With a sell out crowd of 80,000 expected, El Monumental is one of the most daunting stadiums in world football. A fourth straight win over their visitors on home soil is expected.
- Predictions: River Plate to Win
- Best Odds: 1.61
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 9/10
Anderlecht vs Royale Union Saint-Gilloise:
Belgium, Jupiler Pro League, Sunday, January 28th, 17:30 (UK)
Second hosts first in Belgium this weekend in what should be a mouth watering spectacle. Royale Union sits 11 points clear and a win will all but seal their title, whereas a home win brings them back into contention.
This visitors head into this with the best form over the last five matches and best away record in the league, having collected 23 points from 10 games.
Although top goalscorer Mohamed Amoura is on international duty with Algeria, goals have been evenly spread around the team and they won their first match without him.
That was thanks to Ecuadorian forward Kevin Rodriguez’s last minute winner – something he has done for club and country of late.
Anderlecht’s top goalscorers have struggled to find the net in recent weeks, which is another tick in Royale Union’s box.
What’s more impressive is the league leaders have won all four visits to Lotto Park and there’s every reason as to why they can make it five.
- Predictions: Royale Union to Win
- Best Odds: 2.10
- Bookmaker: bet365
- Stakes: 8/10
