Championship, League 1 and 2 Predictions: Tips in England
We love the English Football League pyramid here at bettingexpert, so, after little consideration, we decided to make a weekly updated article to house predictions, tips and best bets in each of the EFL Championship, League 1 and League 2 in England.
What can you expect? There will be exclusive EFL selections here that’ll be seen nowhere else on bettingexpert, headed by our football editor, Sam Ingram. Additionally, this page will host any other EFL fancies found on bettingexpert and data from our in-house predictive model, BETSiE, including an EFL Championship Table Prediction of the final standings after 46 games.
This week, our EFL expert, Jack Wright, has three tips for you below.

Stoke vs Leicester: Schumacher’s Stoke stall set to continue
England, Championship, Saturday, February 3rd, 15:00 (UK)
I’ll hold my hands up. Last week, I gave Stoke too much credit and was wrong in thinking they would beat a Sunderland side there for the taking at the Stadium of Light.
Steven Schumacher’s men dominated the ball, created plenty of chances, had 15 shots to the hosts eight and posted a better xG but lost 3-1. Once again their manager admitted, they were not clinical enough and “haven’t got that belief in the final third”.
It is a movie Potters fans have seen countless times before, and if it is repeated on many more occasions, they are in serious danger of dropping into the third tier. Currently in 19th place there is just a seven-point cushion to QPR in the final relegation spot.
As a result, the last side you want to see next on the fixture list is Leicester City. Last weekend, the league leaders cruised into the fifth round of the FA Cup as a much-changed starting eleven brushed Birmingham aside 3-0.
The Foxes won the reverse fixture 2-0, and given the host’s struggles in front of goal, it is likely they will draw another blank against the Championship’s meanest defence. Stoke are winless in their last seven league games at home scoring just twice during that run.
At the other end, Enzo Maresca has only seen his side fail to score once on the road this term in 18 games across all competitions, winning 10 of their 14 road games in the English second tier.

England EFL Championship Table: Final Standings Predictions
If you didn’t know, the majority of the data that we utilise on bettingexpert comes from BETSiE. From the predictive tables you see below to the data and stats flooded into our daily content offering – BETSiE has her paws on most of it. And for us today, she’s delving into how the underlying data predicts that the final standings in the Championship table will pan out.
BETSiE predicts that Rotherham are goners. Sorry, Millers fans – and Owls and Huddersfield supporters, too, for that matter. The projection is that you’ll be back in League 1 next season. Plymouth Argyle does enough to retain their Championship status in Devon, whilst QPR and Millwall, under new management, rack up the required points total for another stay in the division.
Nearer to the top of the table, Ipswich achieve back-to-back promotions after clinching automatics. Leeds United only just miss out, with Southampton, Sunderland and West Brom hanging onto their coattails with playoff football their primary aim, given the runaway manner Leicester City and the Tractor Boys show all season long.
BETSiE’s Championship Table Predictions:

Leyton Orient vs Carlisle United: O’s Double Heaven
England, League One, Saturday, February 3rd, 15:00 (UK)
Leyton Orient are on their best run of form this season. Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Reading may have ended a run of three straight wins but it extended their unbeaten record to six games. A sequence built on a water tight defence with the Royals equaliser the first goal Orient had conceded in 553 minutes.
For Carlisle their 4-1 home defeat to Bolton was simply a continuation of a wretched run of form. Manager Paul Simpson labelled the fact his men were beaten by a far better side as “blatantly obvious” admitting there was a huge gulf between the two teams.
These two clubs are very familiar with each having both been promoted last season. However, there has been a distinct contrast to their fortunes in the third tier.
Sitting in 10th place the O’s are 10 points adrift of the playoff places. The 23rd placed Cumbrians also have a 10 point difference to bridge but theirs is the current gap to safety.
Orient completed the double over Carlisle last term with a 1-0 win here a result they replicated when the two sides met at Brunton Park in October. However, the FA Cup brought them together again as recently as November with Richie Wellens seeing his men run out convincing 3-1 victors. They can make it a fifth successive head to head win on Saturday.

Newport County vs Swindon Town: Only Fools would think Exiles can’t make plonkers of Robins at Rodney Parade
England, League Two, Saturday, February 3rd, 12:45 (UK)
Newport took a break from the rigours of League Two action to soak up the glamour of the FA Cup last weekend and nearly produced one of the biggest comebacks in the famous competition’s illustrious history. There looked no hope of a giant-killing as visitors Manchester United raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes.
However, two goals on either side of halftime brought the Welsh outfit level to give the 12-time FA Cup winners an almighty scare. The Premier League side ran out 4-2 winners but Graham Coughlan has vowed to use the performance as a catalyst for climbing League Two.
Prior to the defeat at the hands of the Red Devils, County had put together a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions. Suffering only two defeats in their last ten league games has seen the Exiles move away from the relegation zone and to within seven points of the playoff places.
Strong home performances have meant a run of seven league games without defeat at Rodney Parade. Eye-catching victories over the top two, Stockport and Wrexham are included in that sequence.
Swindon were in league action at the weekend and defeated an out-of-form Bradford side to secure only a second win in their last nine games. All seven points in that span of fixtures came on home soil.
A 2-1 loss at Crewe on January 13th was the fourth in succession, shipping 11 goals in the process. The Robins have now lost nine of their last 12 road trips across all competitions and have conceded an alarming 32 times.
Newport can continue their upward momentum in this one at the expense of the travel-sick visitors.
