Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Prediction: Team News and Lineups
La Liga’s title contenders are back in action this weekend and our expert Nathan Joyes has provided his Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Best Bet, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Atletico Madrid head into this encounter unbeaten in their last six across all competitions, which included a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last time out. Only one point behind their rivals Real Madrid, Diego Simeone’s side are well and truly capable of winning the title come May.
Celta Vigo sit in 12th spot but head into this contest having collected just four points from their last five matches. On the road, they’ve won just five points from a possible 33, and haven’t beaten Atletico on the road since 2016.
Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Prediction: Simeone to silence the hosts
Spain, La Liga, Saturday, February 15th, 17:30 (UK)
Although Atletico Madrid were unable to beat Real Madrid in their own backyard, a valuable point could prove to be priceless come the end of the season.
At home, Diego Simeone’s side have been relentless. With nine wins and a draw from their last 10, you have to go all the way back to November the last time they tasted defeat in front of their fans, and even that was in the Champions League and not La Liga.
With 30 points from a possible 36, Atletico Madrid have the best record and now face Celta Vigo, a side that has won just once on their travels – and that came against Las Palmas.
And with Atletico winning the last five head-to-heads – conceding just once – there’s little surprise to see the hosts at such skinny odds.
But despite such strong form at home, Atletico Madrid are not a team to score for fun. With 23 goals scored in their 12 home matches, they’ve averaged 1.91 goals. At the other end of the pitch, they’ve conceded just seven. That’s an average of 0.58 per match.
And while Celta Vigo have averaged two goals conceded per away match, they’ve failed to score against the title contenders in both meetings in 2024 (1-0 both games).
In fact, Simeone’s team have kept four clean sheets from their last five games, only conceding a penalty against 5th placed Villarreal. Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, and with Jose Gimenez and Clement Lenglet in front of him, not many teams are finding a way past them.
Celta Vigo have managed to score four of their last five away games – but one could argue Valencia, Alaves, Rayo Vallecano and Espanyol are not on the same level as their next opponents.
Both teams to score “no” has landed in five of their last six meetings, and with Atletico Madrid priced at 1.40, it is far better value to back them to not concede across the 90 minutes.

Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo Injuries, Team News and Possible Lineups
Uruguayan centre-back Jose Gimenez has performed admirably when called upon, but with Robin Le Normand’s suspension over, Simeone may choose to switch the centre-back pairing that secured a point at the Bernabeu.
Julian Alvarez returned to the scoresheet after going five matches without a goal, and the former Man City striker will likely partner Antoine Griezmann once again this weekend.
Celta Vigo welcome back Ilaix Moriba and Carl Starfelt who missed their 3-2 win over Real Betis due to suspensions. Both are likely to return to the squad, but they may have to settle for a place on the bench due to their team’s success last time out.
Atletico Madrid possible starting lineup:
Oblak; Mandava, Lenglet, Le Normand, Llorente, Lino, Koke, Barrios, Simeone, Alvarez, Sorloth
Celta Vigo possible starting lineup:
Guaita; Alonso, Dominguez, Rodriguez, Alvarez, Sotelo, Beltran, Mingueza, Gonzalez, Losada, Duran
