Ireland are 4th in Group A of the World Cup qualifications. They won 1, drawn 2, and lost 3 games. In the last match won 3-0 vs the worst team in the group, Azerbaijan. Portugal on the other hand, are 2nd with just one point less than Serbia but with a game less than Serbia. In the last 4 games, they won all 4. In the last one, they won 5-0 vs Luxembourg and looked like the best team in Group.
Ireland managed to spoil Serbia`s plan with a 1-1 draw at home. I watched that match and Serbia were so dominant and should have scored 3 or 4 goals. Ireland scored a late equalizer but actually, it was an auto goal from Milenkovic. They are not good enough to get a positive result in this match.
Portugal are in 2nd place but I think they are the best team in this group. Even though I think Ireland are a strong defensive team I do not see them managing to defend against players like Moutinho, Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Andre Silva, and the rest. Since Portugal has the most important match of the season just a couple of days after this game, vs Serbia, they have to win. If they win this game, they can just draw the match vs Serbia, and still, qualify for the WC.
