Yulia Starodubtseva vs Guillermina Naya LP Open Expert Tip: Improving Starodubtseva Too Strong For Naya
Yulia Starodubtseva vs Guillermina Naya (LP Open): Thursday, November 16th
On a day with very little value on offer in Colina, we managed to get a nice 3.00-odds winner with Panna Udvardy against Diana Shnaider.
For Thursday, we’ll stick with the LP Open at the WTA 125K level in Chile.
Let’s preview Yulia Starodubtseva vs Guillermina Naya.

I said in the last preview that opposed Starodubtseva that if she could beat Sara Errani on red clay in altitude I’d be upgrading her on the surface.
With her run into the top 200 this season already showcasing her talent on hard courts and green clay, I was ready to have her as a -4.5 or -5 game favourite in this contest against a relatively unknown 27-year-old anyway.
Now, I have her in the -6 game range against Naya, who isn’t anywhere near the level that Starodubtseva has shown this year and with lopsided sets certainly a strong possibility in this match, I’m happy to back a dominant win in a few capacities with the Ukrainian.

Yulia Starodubtseva Recent Form
The dream run in 2023 continues for the Old Dominion University product, which is on the doorstep of the top 150 in the rankings and could get into the top 125 with a long run in Colina.
The ITF Tour titles have been piling up for the 23-year-old this year and she continues to impress against WTA Tour players and top-100 talent when presented with the opportunity.
The controlled hitting is what makes her game so strong, as she doesn’t overwhelm, but can certainly hit through her forehand wing, while still avoiding unforced errors.
That is a pretty strong combination, especially late in the season at the WTA 125K level, where the competition tends not to have many big hitters or higher-end talent in the draws.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she once again showcases that she is a step above her competitor on Thursday.
Guillermina Naya Recent Form
The Argentine has actually had a fairly respectable 2023 season results-wise. The problem is, despite amassing over 35 victories, the 27-year-old still entered this week outside of the top 400.
In other words, she’s playing lower-level events, which means she’s beating fairly poor players who jump from W15 to W25 tournaments throughout the season.
Having not been all that familiar with her game, I watched portions of several of her matches in Zaragoza, Spain (which is about 200 metres above sea level) and came away thoroughly unimpressed. Her ball can get on opponents when hit with depth, but certainly lacks power and that’s something that Starodubtseva has proven she can pick apart.
Her serve is also far from impressive for me and when stepping up against an opponent of this level, I expect her to find herself in trouble.
Yulia Starodubtseva vs Guillermina Naya H2H – Stat of the Match
With neither of these women having played much on tour prior to this season, there is no head-to-head history between these two.
The difference, of course, is that Starodubtseva has broken through at a much higher level than Naya, whose quality of competition hasn’t been all that impressive.
