Yannick Hanfmann vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo Expert Tip
It should be tough for the younger of the Cerundolo brothers to back up his shock win over Roman Safiullin in the opening round.
Without much power to rush the German, Cerundolo is far more likely to face pressure in his service games, while Hanfmann can find a few more cheap points and thus, easier holds of serve.
Read on for more expert insights.
- Expert Tip: Hanfmann to win 2-0 at 2.03 with Pinnacle, using 2/10 stakes.
Yannick Hanfmann Recent Form
Hanfmann’s preparation for the U.S. Open has consisted of just one week of hard court play in Cincinnati.
He lost that match in straight sets to Mackenzie McDonald, an American with more pop, a flatter hitting style and the tendency to take the ball early – all things that take time away from opponents and all things that Cerundolo struggles to do.
Without a win yet on hard courts this summer, Hanfmann will surely be motivated to find at least one win this week in Winston-Salem to get himself more matchplay heading into the year’s final grand slam.
With his strong serve and forehand combination and the ability to play at net as well, Hanfmann should be fine if he can avoid hitting too many unforced errors, which would play right into his counterpart’s hands.
Juan Manuel Cerundolo Recent Form
Cerundolo’s win over Safiullin last round wasn’t just his only win on hard courts this year, it was his only match on hard courts in 2023.
He skipped the Australian swing in favour of playing a few Challenger Tour events on home soil.
The strategy worked out, as he won both the first and second tournaments in Tigre.
The flip side, however, is that he should be a fish out of water for the next few weeks as he tries to get acclimated to a relatively unfamiliar court speed.
With a topspin heavy game that doesn’t really work at these events, Cerundolo will have to be careful not to leave the ball sitting up in Hanfmann’s hitting zone too often.
Yannick Hanfmann vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo H2H – Stat of the Match
These two have only met once, with Hanfmann winning in three sets earlier this season in Buenos Aires on Cerundolo’s home turf.
That was on clay, though, where both players are more comfortable, but Cerundolo probably gains more matchup-wise, where his defensive nature is rewarded more than Hanfmann’s aggression.
On a hard court, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hanfmann still manage to find a few dominant sets, but without Cerundolo managing to snag one along the way.
