Wimbledon 2023: Men’s Futures Best Bet
Wimbledon 2023 Men’s Futures Best Bet: Friday, June 30th
It’s the biggest event on the tennis calendar. The Championships, Wimbledon are finally here and we have the draws for each of the men’s and women’s singles competitions.
It is the lone grass grand slam, so the question is, once again, can anyone stop Novak Djokovic? Let’s dig into both halves of the draw and see if we can find some decent numbers to back.
In this article:
Top Half of the Draw
As is always the case with grand slam betting, I’ll be looking at the half of the draw that doesn’t feature the greatest to ever play the game in Djokovic to avoid my players having to play him for as long as possible.
This year, that would be the top half of the draw, with Carlos Alcaraz as the top seed. Several of the biggest names in the sport feature in this half, but it’s worth noting, none of them are particularly dominant on grass. Guys like Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune are all names even the most casual fans of the sport in 2023 will recognize, but none are contenders in my book to take home the title on the final Sunday.
That leaves an opening for other guys to potentially shock the world if they can beat the phenom from El Palmar, Spain.
Who are the names then, that could pose problems for the top guys in this half? Frances Tiafoe is one. He hasn’t been great on grass in his career, but he has improved in recent years and does prefer faster surfaces. He has the athleticism to prolong points on the lawns more than most and his big serve and aggressive mindset are well suited to success here.
The other guy I think could do damage? Tallon Griekspoor. The Dutchman has a huge game and enters with confidence after having won the title in Den Bosch and making the quarters in Halle (he lost from a set up there to Andrey Rublev). Being in the weaker second quarter also helps.
Bottom Half of the Draw
The bottom half of the draw shouldn’t take as much time to preview. It’s Djokovic’s to lose – as is the title, if we’re being honest – and there aren’t even names I think will really trouble him.
Last year’s finalist, Nick Kyrgios, has just one match this year after a tough knee injury. Felix Auger Aliassime hasn’t been in form in 2023 and there are questions surrounding his physical fitness at the moment as well. The same goes for Jannik Sinner, who continues to be troubled by injuries on and off. Finally, the big-serving Hubert Hurkacz is simply too one dimensional to hurt the world No. 2.
If anyone could pose a problem (and I don’t think anyone really can in this half), it would be either Taylor Fritz or Alexander Bublik. The American reached the quarterfinal last year (and he should’ve finished off Rafael Nadal), has a big serve and is strong on quicker courts.
Bublik, meanwhile, has the perfect game for grass courts. Big serve, will come to the net and has terrific touch and variety to keep opponents on their toes. He just won Halle to prove that when he’s mentally engaged, he’s one of the best there is. With Wimbledon being a slam, the motivation should be there. With Bublik, however, there simply aren’t any guarantees.
Wimbledon Futures Best Bets
I’m not too keen on betting into the price on Djokovic being in the 1.65 region to win the whole thing.
That means I have to settle for some longer shots instead. I’ll go with two guys whose games I like on quicker surfaces and who the market deem to have very little chance to win. I will say, I’d prefer Tiafoe to win his quarter, but those prices are released late.
For me, Bublike in the triple digits and Tiafoe are the two to bet here from the men’s draw.
- Selection: Tiafoe to win Wimbledon
- Best Odds: 81.00 (Bet365)
- Stake: 0.5/10
- Bonus: Bublik to win Wimbledon at 121.00 with Unibet, using 0.5/10 stakes.
