Wednesday Tennis Best Bet: WTA French Open, Qinwen Zheng vs Yulia Putintseva
Qinwen Zheng vs Yulia Putintseva Best Bet: Wednesday, May 31st
Sara Sorribes Tormo held on, despite nearly blowing the -4-game handicap from 7-6, 4-0 up serving at 30-0. It’s nice to have a player hold on for once, rather than blowing it, especially on a bigger play.
For Wednesday, we’ll remain at the French Open and preview the match between Qinwen Zheng and Yulia Putintseva.

The second round is here, and it’s another slew of matches coming at us fast and furious for a few days.
This one is my favourite from the betting side of things for Wednesday.
Zheng is looking to build on her fourth round appearance last year, where she ended up losing to Iga Swiatek, but not before being the only player to take a set from the world No. 1 at the 2022 edition of this event.
Her game is well-suited for the clay. She moves better than most tall, big servers, can hit through the clay and benefits from the added time she’s afforded to set up her big groundstrokes.
Putintseva is the exact opposite kind of player, who likes the clay because it rewards her tenacious defensive play and consistency from the baseline.
In this particular matchup, I have to side with the 20-year-old from China. She’s got the more explosive game, while also matching Putintseva’s comfort on the surface and is more likely to dominate this match.
Qinwen Zheng vs Yulia Putintseva Best Bet
I’m happy to back the handicap here for a few reasons, considering it’s rather expensive to just take Zheng to win.
Putintseva’s track record this season against players with explosive power is the first. She’s lost by a decent margin to Caroline Garcia – whose style on the return of serve actually hurts her when it comes to blowing players out – as well as Coco Gauff – whose form has actually been pretty poor, but who can hit a big first serve and has a strong backhand.
The second is that we get the classic case where one player is far more likely to apply pressure on return than the other. That means, logically speaking, one player is far more likely to break serve on a consistent basis. It would stand to reason you’d want to back that player if you’re going to give up a head start. In this match, said player is Zheng.
