Iga Swiatek vs Cori Gauff Best Bet: Wednesday, June 7th
Very nice win for Karolina Muchova. It wasn’t without turbulence once again, as she had to save a break point when serving for the match in the second set, but in the end, it was fairly comfortable, which can’t always be said with regard to her wins.
For Wednesday, it’s another day of quarterfinals from Roland Garros, and we’ll preview the one featuring Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff.

This is viewed as the more marquee of the two quarterfinals from the women’s draw taking place on Wednesday, but I’m of the mind that this is going to be a rather one-sided affair.
We actually saw this exact match take place a year ago, on this court in the final, where Swiatek crushed Gauff 6-1, 6-3. That’s when Gauff was in better form, no less.
The matchup heavily favours the world No. 1, who has one of the best two or three forehands in these conditions on tour. The American? One of the worst among those ranked inside the world’s top 50.
Gauff does have a strong first serve and strong backhand wing, but the latter isn’t quite enough to generate winners on slow clay, and the former can be offset by the occasional tendency to hit double faults with her second delivery.
I’m not convinced that Gauff is much better in just about any capacity than she was last year, and Swiatek has been sending people packing with authority in every match heading into this one. There’s no reason to believe this match will be any different.

With Swiatek’s dominance this tournament, Gauff’s struggles in this very matchup on this very court just last year, and the matchup overwhelmingly favouring the world No. 1, I’ll happily back her to get things done in relatively routine fashion once again.
The fact that Gauff is getting more respect than other opponents, despite being just as outmatched on the forehand wing adds a bit of value and means we don’t have to give up as much of a head start as we have had to in other matches.
