Tuesday Tennis Best Bet: WTA French Open, Karolina Muchova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Karolina Muchova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Best Bet: Tuesday, June 6th
The queen of retirements struck again, as Lesia Tsurenko retired down 1-5 to Iga Swiatek. There’s a chance that there was a legitimate injury issue, but keep in mind, this is a player that has a history of doing this where players are overwhelming her with pace and beating her badly. That bet voids though, and we can be happy knowing that we had identified a relatively lopsided matchup.
For Tuesday, we’ll take a look at the quarterfinal match between Karolina Muchova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for the right to be one of the final four contenders for the title.

Karolina Muchova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Preview
June 6th, 10:00 (UK Time)
Outside of the opening round, where she had to play one of the top seeds in her quarter, Muchova has had a fairly nice draw to reach the quarterfinals in Paris.
While she often makes life far more complicated for herself than it needs to be with silly errors, the fact is she does possess the talent to be a top-10 player on the WTA Tour. Whether it be a strong first serve, the ability to play at the net, the touch and feel for slices and drop shots or solid groundstrokes from the baseline, the 26-year-old doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses (other than the aforementioned head-scratching decision-making).
I also rate her far more on this surface, even with Pavlyuchenkova having reached the final of this very event just a few years ago (that was one of the most odd group of semifinalists you may see for some time).
The Russian has rebounded from her injury absence at the right time after a few weeks with more struggles so far at Roland Garros. That said, she’s still been far from convincing. Her third-round match with Anastasia Potapova required a comeback from a set down. Then against Elise Mertens, she trailed by a set, break and the Belgian had three points for a double break lead, before she also ended up choking the match away.
Finally, while Muchova may be susceptible to similar collapses, Pavlyuchenkova did have to accumulate time on court in order to come through each of her last two matches.
Karolina Muchova vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova Best Bet
I’ve actually opposed Pavlyuchenkova in each of her comeback wins (shocker, I know). Many may be rather scarred by those two matches and just avoid betting against her again, but I remain steadfast that she’s being overvalued in the betting markets.
I’d maintain that even with more convincing wins in previous rounds that Muchova should be in the 1.50 range here. With Pavlyuchenkova barely coming through in each of the last two rounds, I’m even more bearish on her chances as the competition only grows tougher.
