Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga Aberto da Republica Expert Tip: Trust Undervalued American Again in the Quarterfinals
IMAGO / Hasenkopf Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga during Aberto da Republica.

Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga (Aberto da Republica): friday, November 24th

Tough no-show from Adrian Andreev. As mentioned in the preview, he is a mercurial player and we saw the volatility in his attitude in a poor showing on Thursday.

Onto Friday, where we’ll head back to the more fruitful pastures profit wise at the Aberto da Republica on the ATP Challenger Tour and look at Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga.

Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga Expert Tip

  • Expert Tip: Boyer to win
  • Best Odds: 1.68
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 5/10

Another instance of a major undervaluation on Boyer. The American has a well-rounded game and as an American will surely be more comfortable on hard courts. Burruchaga has won a few matches this week, but hasn’t been impressive and certainly can’t compete with the power of Boyer in altitude.

His control may help him with regards to limiting errors in the thinner air, but I fail to see how he wins this more than 35% of the time.

Odds as at 12:00 am UK Time on November 24th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Tristan Boyer Recent Form

The potential of Boyer has been on full display this week.

Despite turning some heads on clay this season, it’s the altitude of Brasilia and the hard courts that have really shown us how promising of a player he is.

The clay-court prowess should help him in any longer exchanges with someone like Burruchaga, but it’s his big first serve and strong forehand and ability to dictate that should really set him apart in these conditions.

I said earlier this week when he played Guido Andreozzi that Boyer was incredibly undervalued against clay courters in these conditions.

Apparently after a relatively straightforward win that day and another against Renzo Olivo, the books and the markets still haven’t made the necessary adjustments.

Roman Burruchaga Recent Form

Known as a supremely talented youngster, Burruchaga has dealt with some injuries as he’s attempted to climb the rankings.

This season has been his breakout campaign, with a handful of clay court semifinal appearances at the Challenger level and a few more quarters to go with them. Thanks to this quarterfinal, he’s set to enter the top-200 in the rankings for the first time.

The problem is, he’s as close to being a clay specialist as they come. He plays with a heavy ball, strong spin and good, consistent play, but he lacks in the departments that are rewarded on hard courts and in altitude.

This week, in his lone two hard court victories of the 2023 campaign, he trailed 1-6 to a horrendous hard courter in Hernan Casanova and then had to come back from 4-6 against the impressive junior and home favourite Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian is still young, however, and can spray errors at an incredible rate.

I’m nowhere near convinced he’s ready to step up against someone like Boyer, who is more natural on hard courts and on a similar ascent in 2023.

Tristan Boyer vs Roman Burruchaga H2H – Stat of the Match

No previous head-to-head between the two youngsters who have spent most of their time on different surfaces and playing in different parts of the world.

Really looking forward to seeing if Burruchaga can effectively absorb Boyer’s power and try and wait out errors.

His serve may play up, but he’s still likely to generate fewer free points, or be able to dictate. With Boyer having looked just fine in his stints on clay, I’m not so sure just waiting and hoping for errors will be an effective strategy.
