I’ve been waiting patiently for a few matches to oppose Navarro. Put quite simply, she’s been one of the more overvalued players in the betting markets this clay-court season.
Thanks to a series of wins at the ITF level on the quicker green clay found in the United States (against lesser competition, no less), she’s being priced up as a much better player than I believe her level actually reflects.
She has a decent game, and does probably prefer the clay, but the lack of quality wins really has me raising a red flag regarding just how successful she’s been.
Against the three best players she’s played on European red clay – Greet Minnen, Clara Tauson and Anna Blinkova – Navarro has won a grand total of just one set.
Now she plays Andreescu, who may not be the best clay courter out there, but is coming off a comeback victory against Victoria Azarenka and is a far more talented player. The Canadian also has a much greater slam pedigree and has played consistently for years at the top level of the game.
Not only does Navarro lack the weapons to trouble Andreescu, but the 22-year-old from just west of Toronto has a decent serve and can play an aggressive style of her own.

The overvaluation here on Navarro has provided an excellent spot to capitalise on an incredibly cheap price backing Andreescu.
I have Andreescu as a shorter favourite here in the 1.50 range, and could make a case for a price as expensive as 1.44. The current price on offer floors me, especially considering the level of competition that has beaten the American is on the same wavelength as Andreescu at best, and not even at her level at worst.
