Stefano Travaglia vs Benjamin Hassan (Peugeot Slovak Open): Wednesday, October 11th

A painful loss on the men’s side as well, as we correctly identified the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Zhizhen Zhang was a tighter affair than the markets believed.

Unfortunately, Zhang lost in a third set tiebreak in as close a match as one can lose.

For Wednesday, it’s off to the ATP Challenger Tour for our preview. Let’s delve into Stefano Travaglia vs Benjamin Hassan from the Peugeot Slovak Open.

Stefano Travaglia vs Benjamin Hassan Expert Tip

I’m interested to see whether Hassan can back up a lengthy week in Lisbon with another in the Slovakian capital, especially with a change in surface and conditions.

From outdoor clay courts to the indoor hard courts, Hassan could take a minute to get adjusted.

Toss in the fact that Travaglia has a big serve and game to pick up cheap points indoors, and I’m sceptical that Hassan will have the requisite energy to produce much in return games.

  • Expert Tip: Travaglia to win at 1.62 with Unibet, using 3/10 stakes.

Odds as at 2:30 am UK Time on October 11th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Read on for more expert insights.

Stefano Travaglia Recent Form

Lisbon wasn’t as kind to Travaglia, who lost to a young Croatian player in a deciding set tiebreak in the opening round.

Since qualifying for the U.S. Open’s main draw, the 31-year-old Italian has struggled in Europe and may welcome the shift to the indoor hard courts, where his serve can be more of a dominant force within a match and things aren’t likely to be as physical.

While he’s had his struggles on return, Travaglia has managed to hold over 83% of his service games over the course of the last year on hard courts at this level.

Travaglia’s best result of 2023 also happened to come on a hard court, when he reached the final of the Tenerife Challenger. One could make the case that picking up three qualifying wins and then taking a set from a top-25 player in Tommy Paul at the U.S. Open was his second best tournament of the year as well.

With his opponent off a long week, I like Travaglia’s chances here.

Benjamin Hassan Recent Form

Despite not having had the same level of success over the long run as Travaglia has, the 28-year-old representing Lebanon has been on a tear of late.

He’s reached at least the quarterfinals in five of his last six tournaments played and pushed himself inside the top-200 in the world rankings for the first time.

Game wise, he’s got a nice baseline game that combines solidity with sneaky pace, and he has no issues playing longer rallies and waiting his opposition out.

The down side is probably his serve, which he admitted he believes he needs to improve at a Challenger tournament a few months ago to a local reporter.

The numbers back that up, with his hold rate down below 74% over the course of the last 52 weeks on hard courts at the Challenger level.

To me, that won’t cut it. Not only is he playing a strong server that won’t let him into most service games, but Travaglia’s return game isn’t as much of a liability if he isn’t playing as big of a server.

Stefano Travaglia vs Benjamin Hassan H2H – Stat of the Match

Despite these two being journeymen and Challenger Tour regulars, they actually haven’t played each in the professional ranks yet.

This should be a good test to see how much Hassan has improved his serve, with a mediocre returner on the other side of the net not presenting the toughest test in that regard.

Let’s see if Travaglia can land a high rate of first serves and wear Hassan down physically enough to emerge victorious.
