Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Camila Osorio Jiangxi Open Expert Tip: Spaniard to Shine in Battle of Clay Courters
Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Camila Osorio (Jiangxi Open): Wednesday, October 18th
Really tough loss on Tuesday’s preview, as Alycia Parks came back from a slow start to win 9 of 10 games and take a 3-0 double break lead in the deciding set before falling apart. Another tough blow in a season that has seen far more previews lose from dominant positions than comeback victories.
We march on though, and we’ll head to Nanchang, China and the Jiangxi Open for our WTA Wednesday preview, featuring Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Camila Osorio.

Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Camila Osorio Expert Tip
I simply can’t get past this only being a three-game handicap on a hard court, despite the disparity between these two players’ histories on the surface, along with major form and fitness concerns right now for the Colombian.
Perhaps the market is looking back to the Cleveland 2022 meeting between these two as a reason to bet Osorio with the three-game head start, but I’m not convinced she has the ability to keep this one as close.
- Expert Tip: Sorribes Tormo -3 Games at 1.90 with Pinnacle, using 4/10 stakes.

Sara Sorribes Tormo Recent Form
It’s been a pretty decent stretch on hard courts this summer and autumn for the Spaniard. Now, the obvious caveat to that is it required a lucky loser spot in Cleveland to pick up many of her hard court wins this year.
That said, she still won that title, beating some pretty decent players along the way.
Her losses? To legitimate hard courters, almost all of whom have a decent amount of pop from the baseline like Clara Burel, Iga Swiatek, Xinyu Wang and Anna Blinkova. All of them are more natural on hard courts than someone like Osorio and can certainly dictate play with far more ease.
With her incredible athleticism, stamina and consistency, it’ll be really hard for Osorio to construct points effectively without committing errors and if she does try to overhit, the errors are likely to flow from her forehand.
It’s also worth noting that Sorribes Tormo has covered the -3 game handicap in each of her wins dating back with the exception of one (against a top-25 player) to Cleveland in August, including against some strong competition.
Camila Osorio Recent Form
Form certainly isn’t Osorio’s friend at the moment, as she has struggled mightily during the summer hard court stretch of the WTA schedule.
After losing her opening match in both Chicago and New York City, she qualified in San Diego and won one match before being crushed by Maria Sakkari and retiring in the second set.
Since then? Poor losses to Magdalena Frech and the ageing Vera Zvonareva. A win against a player I have never heard of in the opening round this week doesn’t change the fact that her game simply isn’t clicking right now at tour level.
She doesn’t really possess the power to hit through Sorribes Tormo’s defences, and considering the way she’s lost some lopsided sets of late, I question whether she has the physicality she needs to employ her incredibly solid style on the court.
Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Camila Osorio H2H – Stat of the Match
Sorribes Tormo won the lone meeting between these two last year in Cincinnati. It was a close three setter that the Spaniard won by a two-game margin.
Now, that was an Osorio playing at a higher level than she is now and not looking shaky coming off a recent retirement. Toss in the fact that I’m not a fan of using a one-match sample as overly predictive, and I’m not too concerned about that encounter from over a year ago.
