Sara Bejlek vs Renata Zarazua Expert Tip
Can’t get past one of the top clay prospects in the game only being a 4.5-game favourite against a relatively weaponless player who has never really had much success against anyone who is all that talented.
Zarazua’s first serve had a strong stretch behind her first serve a bit earlier in the season on hard courts and on green clay, but with this being slower red clay and at sea level, it’s hard to trust her underpowered baseline game and an average serve in slow conditions to hold up against a young gun that is already proving to be an absolute menace on return.

Sara Bejlek Recent Form
All that needs to be said about the 17-year-old’s form is that she’s won 12 straight matches – all of them coming on clay.
Last week alone she beat some players who are or have been WTA Tour regulars or top-100 players like Diane Parry, Panna Udvardy (her biggest scare in a match we backed the bigger hitting Hungarian who led by a set and break), Nadia Podoroska and Anna Bondar.
This week she showcased her ability to outlast fellow consistency-based players by taking out Sara Errani and Leolia Jeanjean. Each win featured one lopsided set and a tiebreak, though her return stats were impeccable and she did cover that 4.5-game handicap in each of her two matches.
I’m not too worried about fatigue either, considering she’s still a teen and five of the 12 wins that constitute her winning streak came well over a month ago and she’s only played seven matches since the start of last week in Colina.
With Zarazua being another light server and pretty weaponless, another lopsided set or two could very well be in the cards.
Renata Zarazua Recent Form
As I mentioned earlier, Zarazua actually had a fine stretch of play earlier in the campaign.
A lot of that happened in the Americas, however, when the more talented players were battling overseas and also occurred on hard courts or green clay, where her first serve was a big assist – a feature that won’t be nearly as effective in these conditions, as I mentioned above.
Her wins this have come against Udvardy – who looked fatigued from her efforts in Colina last week after about five or six games – and Despina Papamichail, who we know from a preview last week is far from being a competent player on clay courts.
Her success earlier this month on clay? On the quicker green stuff and almost exclusively against overhitters that can be erratic and are nowhere near the best on the surface. That’s not the profile of Bejlek, who is more methodical and precision-oriented.
Sara Bejlek vs Renata Zarazua H2H – Stat of the Match
These two played last year once on clay in the Czech Republic, where Bejlek emerged victorious, but in an extremely tight three-set affair.
I think the fact that she’s got a career-high ranking at the moment, playing the best tennis of her life and is so young, would all indicate that she’s a much better player than she was then and I’d expect that margin of victory to grow on Friday in Brazil.
