Pablo Llamas Ruiz vs Calvin Hemery Copa Sevilla Preview and Expert Tip: Llamas Ruiz One to Watch at the Challenger Level
Pablo Llamas Ruiz vs Calvin Hemery (Copa Sevilla): Thursday, September 7th
Tuesday’s over loses in heartbreaking fashion, as we get four sets and a tiebreak along the way and somehow don’t win on the over 39 games bet. Wednesday is the same situation as Tuesday, as the match was being played well into the night and the result of the wagers was not known at the time of writing.
For Thursday’s ATP preview, we head to Spain and the Copa Sevilla! There’s no men’s tennis from the U.S. Open, as Thursday is women’s semifinal day (the same will be true on Friday, when the women will be off). So, let’s preview the Pablo Llamas Ruiz vs Calvin Hemery match from the lower Challenger Tour level.

Pablo Llamas Ruiz vs Calvin Hemery Expert Tip
This could very well be a battle of who can recover from their match on Wednesday more effectively, as both played long matches on the dirt, only to have to back it up on Thursday.
With neither having a big edge in that regard, I’ll look to the better overall player. For me, that’s the Spaniard, playing on home soil.
Llamas Ruiz has really burst onto the scene this year, as he’s gone from a player who had to qualify as most Challenger tournaments he entered, to being a Challenger Tour champion and finding relatively consistent deep runs.
He also has a bit more pop on his serve and can match Hemery’s incredible consistency from the baseline. With a bit more attacking prowess to his game, I’m going to back him in this one.

- Expert Tip: Llamas Ruiz -3 Games at 1.89 with Pinnacle, using 3/10 stakes.
Pablo Llamas Ruiz Recent Form
Llamas Ruiz has had an incredible 2023 campaign, going from winning on the ITF Tour, to what is now his fifth quarterfinal at the Challenger level this year, with a title, another final and a semi all included in those results.
It’s taken an opponent that plays at a decently high level to beat him as well. Most of them have some power to their games as well. Henri Laaksonen has been disappointing but can hit through any surface on his day, Felix Auger Aliassime is a main tour regular, Pedro Martinez is another player who has been seen regularly at the top level in the past, Stefano Travaglia is a former Challenger Tour contender as well.
Armed with a decent serve and incredible rally tolerance, along with spin that can help him reset points or play in a more attacking sense, I really like Llamas Ruiz’s game.
The three-plus hours on court on Wednesday is the only thing holding me back from making this a much larger selection in terms of staking, as it does play a role in pricing the match-up.
Calvin Hemery Recent Form
The 28-year-old Frenchman has also had a successful season, but much of his success has come at the ITF level.
He does have a run to the final in Troyes, as well as a semifinal on the green clay in the USA (where fields tend to be weaker and the clay is much quicker), but other than that, it hasn’t been the most inspiring year.
Hemery plays an incredibly consistent style and if you’re a player prone to hitting unforced errors, you could be in major trouble when you see him on the opposite side of the net.
Prior to this week, it wouldn’t be farfetched to say that the quality wins for him on the dirt have been sorely lacking and the record is probably more impressive than the resume of victories.
I have him as a 3.5-game to 4-game underdog against Llamas Ruiz. I could make the case for 4.5 games if the Spaniard wasn’t off a very long match on Wednesday. Keep in mind, Hemery played almost two hours and 45 minutes himself.
Pablo Llamas Ruiz vs Calvin Hemery H2H – Stat of the Match
Despite both playing fairly regularly at the Challenger level, these two have never played one another.
Perhaps Llamas Ruiz being slightly newer to the scene at just 20 years old and Hemery having been dipping back to the ITF Tour has to do with that.
