Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska Jasmin Open Monastir Expert Tip: Resurgent Spaniard Provides Plenty of Value

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska Jasmin Open Monastir Expert Tip: Resurgent Spaniard Provides Plenty of Value
IMAGO / ZUMA Wire Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain in action during the first round of the 2023 Roland Garros Grand Slam tennis tournament PARIS FRANCE.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska (Jasmin Open Monastir): Thursday, October 19th

Another tough loss to swallow, as Sara Sorribes Tormo led by a break in the first set and lost it, then had the break of serve lead twice in the second set and lost that one as well. She ends up converting about 25% of her break point chances with Camila Osorio over 70%.

For Thursday, we head to the Jasmin Open Monastir to preview Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska for our WTA preview.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska Expert Tip

There are a few reasons I really like Parrizas Diaz in this match.

For starters, after a stunningly poor run of form, it appears as though the 32-year-old is starting to find her game again.

Another primary reason is that her ceiling is much higher and she can actually go out and win a match, where her opponent in this one is almost entirely reliant on waiting out mistakes to find success.

Finally, it’s the undervaluation and slow adjustment from the market that really intrigues me here. Zavatska hasn’t beaten anyone of Parrizas Diaz’s calibre this season on a hard court, and this price point is dependent on Parrizas Diaz being as poor as she was in the last few months.

As I’ll outline below, I simply don’t think that’s the case and that provides us with some excellent value to attack.

  • Expert Tip: Parrizas Diaz to win at 1.91 with Bet365, using 6/10 stakes.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz Recent Form

As I alluded to in the tip section, Parrizas Diaz is just now emerging from months of play that could only make one scratch their head.

Not only was she barely able to win matches, but many of her losses were extremely one sided. It felt as though the Spaniard just couldn’t seem to find any depth on her groundstrokes with any kind of pace. Any shot hit hard would be an error and anything hit with more margin was coming back with interest.

The last few tournaments she’s played, however, she’s turned a corner in a way. She managed a pair of wins before a poor loss in Santarem, Portugal at an ITF event in late September. Last week she reached the quarterfinals of the Rouen 125K event with two wins against fairly solid players and only lost to the veteran Alize Cornet in a tight third set that saw her cover the handicap and now she’s gotten her campaign in Tunisia going with a three-set victory against a top-75 player.

Make no mistake either, the end of the season is important for Parrizas Diaz, who would surely be able to enter 2024 with a much better mindset coming off a series of strong quarterfinal runs and a ranking that is back within reach of the top-100.

She hasn’t beaten anyone that is really good of late, but she’s certainly beaten a few players that are as good or better than someone like Zavatska.

Katarina Zavatska Recent Form

Just 8-8 in 2023 on outdoor hard courts, Zavatska isn’t exactly anything to write home about on the surface.

Three of those eight victories have actually come this week, with none of them coming against relevant opposition. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Despina Papamichail and Natalija Stevanovic are all ITF calibre players on hard courts for me and none of them has any sort of attacking game.

Her wins from earlier this season were no more impressive and her more grinding, defensive style is more suited to the slower clay courts.

There is absolutely the chance that she can coax errors from an opponent who has had trouble with them in the past, but I’m certainly not close to believing that is just as likely an outcome as her losing.

Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Katarina Zavatska H2H – Stat of the Match

The only match these two have played against one another was won by Parrizas Diaz. It took her three sets, but the margin of victory was six games and took place on a clay court.

I would give more of an upgrade to Parrizas Diaz on a hard court than I would Zavatska, and think that even with the poor form in previous months, Parrizas Diaz is certainly deserving of being a favourite by at least a few games.
