Well, I hope everyone had a nice few hours decompressing from that absolutely wild gentlemen’s final from The Championships in SW19, because we’re right back to the grind on Monday, as the WTA Tour resumes with a pair of stops in Budapest and Palermo, along with a 125K event in Iasi, Romania (where the men played a Challenger last week).
For our preview, it’s the event in Palermo we’ll focus on, with Italian Nuria Brancaccio taking on Tessah Andrianjafitrimo.

Put simply, this is a fairly large mismatch in the quality of each player. While neither possesses real power to their games, Brancaccio can still find ways to win points on her own, while Andrianjafitrimo relies almost entirely on her opposition losing points.
Despite the recent struggles for the 23-year-old Italian, she’s also racked up several strong results this season on the clay, winning an ITF event in Argentina, reaching the final of another and then going fairly deep at the WTA 250 in Bogota, Colombia, losing out to WTA Tour regular and strong altitude player, Tatjana Maria.
The Frenchwoman, on the other hand, hasn’t really amassed many strong results yet in 2023, failing to move past the quarterfinal round at any event this year – including those on the lower ITF circuit.
She’s also lost badly to any decent competition she’s played of late, having lost without winning a game against Cristina Bucsa (another player that’s very consistent from the baseline and without weapons, but that can still win points of her own volition) and losing by eight games to Maria Lourdes Carle – again a rock solid baseliner with a bit more to her game than Andrianjafitrimo.
With Brancaccio as a relatively slight favourite, I like her chances a lot more than the market does.

It’s that last point that makes me like this as our bet of the day.
I have Brancaccio in the 1.44-1.50 odds range, while the market has priced her up to be over 1.60. That, to me, is massive value.
Some believe in the momentum player have by coming through qualifying as Andrianjafitrimo did, but that doesn’t give her the upper hand here, as her Italian opponent also came through the qualifying draw – and did so in much more dominant fashion.
