The Djokovic train just keeps rolling. After vanquishing the field down under in January and then besting everyone at Roland Garros, the world No. 2 is just two wins from yet another grand slam victory.
It’s been a relatively dominant fortnight for him to this point as well, with the Serbian going several matches without facing a break point and only being broken a few times through five matches played.
While Sinner may be the most talented player he’s had to take on to this point, the matchup may not be the toughest for him.
Where he had trouble in the last rounds against Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev came primarily from their serves being able to take the racquet out of his hands and neutralise his world-class return game. That’s the one area of Sinner’s game that is somewhat vulnerable.
The groundstrokes are unquestionably powerful, but the serve – specifically his second delivery – does leave something to be desired.
Finally, his movement and court coverage simply aren’t quite as strong as someone like Rublev’s, who Djokovic beat last round.
The Italian did trouble Djokovic here last season, forcing one of the all-time greats to come back from two sets down, but I’m not sure he’s up to doing it again.

The other concern for Sinner – one that has hurt him throughout his career – is whether he can hold up physically. We’ve seen time and again that as he makes deep runs into big events, he struggles to maintain his best level.
That’s another area that Djokovic has the edge in, as one of the most fit players on tour.
At a number under six games, I’ll back Djokovic here with the smallest of stakes.
