The second match of pool play for the week pits one of the biggest servers and baseline sluggers in Sabalenka against a dynamic, well-rounded opponent in Jabeur.
There is no doubt that if Sabalenka manages to play a clean match while limiting the unforced error count, she should win. That, however, is a big if and in the betting world where we’re evaluating percentages and probabilities, we know that she tends to double fault a lot and hit an incredible number of errors more often than not.
That may work in the first few rounds of traditional tournaments, but at the WTA Finals, that can prove costly against the game’s elite. It can prove to be even more costly against her Tunisian opponent on Monday night.
That’s because not only does Jabeur have a massive edge in the consistency department, but she can also slice and dropshot with the best of them, all while also possessing a pretty big first serve of her own.
Essentially, this match is certainly a contrast in styles, but it isn’t between a more consistent player that is underpowered and a big hitter, but a consistent player with power of her own against what some may categorise as a ball basher.
I’ll side with the more well-rounded of the two, especially with the odds making her the slightest of favourites.

In an event that is attended exclusively by the best players in the world, the market tends to be more efficient at pricing the matches up.
I do think, however, that there is slight value in backing Jabeur here at a price that is currently over 1.80. For me, she may not have the raw power to her game, but she can certainly hold her own behind her serve, is lightyears ahead in the consistency department and has a much more dynamic game with the slicing and dropshot abilities.
