Miriam Bulgaru vs Solana Sierra (MundoTenis Open): Tuesday, November 23rd

Another lovely win, as Todoni loses just four games en route to cashing the under 19.5 games bet for Wednesday.

We’ll remain in Brazil with the MundoTenis Open for our WTA preview and look at Miriam Bulgaru vs Solana Sierra.

Miriam Bulgaru vs Solana Sierra Expert Tip

  • Expert Tip: Bulgaru to win
  • Best Odds: 1.80
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds as at 3:00 am UK Time on November 23rd, 2023. Odds may now differ.

After backing the young Argentine last week in a spot that should have been a great match for her to come out on top of, I’m going to sell high this week after she earned her best win by a wide margin in the opening round against Emma Navarro.

I’m not sold on the offensive capabilities, and despite the strong record, outside of the first round against what could’ve been an unmotivated American, she hasn’t really beaten many strong players this year.

Bulgaru can stick with her from the baseline consistency-wise and I do think that she is more capable of dictating points off the forehand side. Without a shock win against Navarro in the opening round, I don’t think we see the market pouring money onto the teen, and I’m convinced they’ve gone too far in moving her price.

Read on for more expert insights.

Miriam Bulgaru Recent Form

I think I’ve opposed the 25-year-old Romanian a few times in the last few months (mostly unsuccessfully), but this isn’t the worst match for her, as she looks to get up towards her career-high ranking of 183 (a few more wins in Florianopolis would do just that).

Her game is well-suited to the clay, as she plays somewhat consistently, but has certainly added some juice to her forehand this season, giving her a bit of offensive weaponry as well.

She’s also got wins against the ascendent Emiliana Arango, resurgent Polona Hercog (they’ve now played three times on clay and she leads 2-1), Kaja Juvan and Dalma Galfi.

None of those players are world-beaters in 2023 on the dirt, but they’re all certainly capable and borderline WTA-level opposition.

She’s a bit more proven for me and more well-rounded, so I have no problem backing a price of 1.80 for her to get the job done.

Solana Sierra Recent Form

As I stated earlier, I’ve tended to be more of a backer when it comes to Sierra than someone who likes to oppose her, but I just haven’t seen enough against strong competition on a large scale to justify her being nearly a pick ‘em against a strong ITF clay courter in this position.

This is also a tough matchup for her since Bulgaru can match a lot of her strengths on the court and doesn’t have enough to win points of her own volition either.

I think as we work through the next few years, she will be a name that becomes more well-known, but at this juncture, I do think her potential is there, but her current talent level is overvalued in this market.

Miriam Bulgaru vs Solana Sierra H2H – Stat of the Match

No previous meetings between these two clay courters. Makes sense with Sierra spending a lot of her time in South America on the ITF clay circuit, while Bulgaru is far more likely to be found in European tournaments (which does provide her with more experience against tougher players generally speaking).

In fact, despite being close to the top 200 in the rankings, Sierra doesn’t even have a recorded clay-court blended elo on Tennis Abstract. That’s how weak the vast majority of her competition has been so far this year.

Bulgaru isn’t spectacular in that respect either, but she’s at least ranked thanks to being more battle-tested than her younger opponent.
