Thursday Tennis Best Bet: ATP Challenger San Benedetto, Kimmer Coppejans vs Francesco Forti
Kimmer Coppejans vs Francesco Forti Best Bet: Thursday, July 13th
Well tough turn of events in that match between Abdullah Shelbayh and Yunseong Chung, as they moved the match indoors thanks to the weather. Not sure I liked the bet as much on an indoor hard court, with lower bounces and potentially faster play helping negate the advantage the Jordanian gains from his more well-rounded game, but such is life sometimes.
Thursday brings a day off for the men at Wimbledon, so we’ll stick with Challenger Tour tennis and preview the match between Kimmer Coppejans and Francesco Forti from the Challenger in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy.

Kimmer Coppejans vs Francesco Forti Preview
Thu, July 13th, 17:30 (UK Time)
After a lacklustre start to 2023, the Challenger Tour journeyman turned some heads at Wimbledon during the qualifying campaign at Roehampton and then again in the opening round at the All England Club where he was far more competitive than anticipated against Alex de Minaur.
Known far more for his chops on clay, the Belgian appears to have carried over his strong form as he dominated his first-round opponent, dropping just two games.
It isn’t the worst matchup for him now in the second round either, with Forti having won some matches recently, but hasn’t really compiled many quality victories with so many of those wins coming in Challenger qualifying matches.
Coppejans has a strong serve and can hit with both pop on the forehand as well as a heavy ball. The Italian, on the other hand, is far more reliant on opposition mistakes, as he doesn’t have the most attacking style.
He’s actually in this main draw as a lucky loser, having lost in qualifying and outlasted a notoriously erratic Andrea Pellegrino in the opening round.
I’m not sure Coppejans will be gifting him nearly as many points, and to me, that eliminates the most likely path to victory for Forti.
Kimmer Coppejans vs Francesco Forti Best Bet
I thought the 23-year-old Italian was overvalued in his opening match against Pellegrino, despite his countryman’s penchant for hitting unforced errors.
Now he’s a similarly priced underdog to a more reliable player from the baseline, who is also a much better and more accomplished player than Forti.
I’m not sure if the market sees the qualifying wins in Challengers of late as enough to move the needle in a positive direction for the Italian, but I certainly do not.
I make this a 4-4.5 game handicap, so am willing to give up just the three-game head start.
