Thursday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Wimbledon, Katie Boulter vs Viktoriya Tomova

Katie Boulter vs Viktoriya Tomova Best Bet: Thursday, July 6th
Believe it or not, neither the wager from Tuesday’s article nor the bet from Wednesday’s article managed to play on Day 3 at The Championships. That means Thursday will see us have three women’s bets on the go at once. I believe that’s the first time that’s happened since I began writing daily on tennis!
For that Thursday write-up, we’ll look at the second-round match between Katie Boulter and Viktoriya Tomova.

Katie Boulter vs Viktoriya Tomova Preview
Thu, July 6th, 14:30 (UK Time)
From one consistent baseliner to the next for Boulter! A day after having wrapped up her opening match against Daria Saville, the Brit takes on Tomova in a spot she likely would’ve expected to see the American Bernarda Pera.
Much like Saville, Tomova is someone who may not win a high volume of points on her own, but she’ll make a lot of balls and if you’re inconsistent and spray unforced errors, she’ll put you away in a hurry.
Likewise, if you have an aggressive game with power – as Boulter does – and can play with control and hit bigger targets and let your power do the work, rather than looking to paint lines on the perimeter of the court, you can easily hit through the Bulgarian.
That’s exactly what Boulter has done by and large on grass courts in 2023. In fact, she won her maiden WTA title just a few weeks ago in Nottingham, playing with that controlled, yet still aggressive mindset.
Even in her first-round match, it wasn’t so much anything Saville was doing, so much as Boulter’s nearly inexplicable struggles on return that allowed Saville to extend that set to a tiebreak. In the second set, once the Brit got herself into a rhythm, it was one-way traffic, with Boulter breaking her Australian counterpart with regularity.
Katie Boulter vs Viktoriya Tomova Best Bet
I’m happy to back Boulter to continue her strong performances on home soil and on a surface she’s comfortable on, has played on plenty in her lifetime and is well suited to succeed on with her aggressive, powerful baseline style.
This is very similar to her first-round match, where she was also a 4-game favourite and where she covered that handicap.
I once again think there’s value to be had in said handicap, with my number being closer to -5 than the -4 on offer.
Boulter should be able to apply just as much pressure to Tomova’s serve and is far more likely to generate free points behind her serve, meaning the holds of serve should come a bit more easily
That’s key when you’re looking for a player to win by a margin as we are here.
