Kaja Juvan vs Miriam Bulgaru Expert Tip

It looks like Juvan is finally starting to showcase that top 50 to the top 75 talent we’ve been waiting for. This summer has helped bring her ranking right back onto the doorstep of the world’s top 100 and what better place to return to that group than in front of your home crowd?

Two more wins and she’ll have more than likely accomplished just that in Ljubljana. The fact is, she is one of the best 100 players in the world, and likely closer to the top-50.

Now clearly finding form, on her favoured clay courts, and against a relatively weaponless and plain opponent, the stage is set for a dominant performance from the 22-year-old.

Read on for more expert insights.

Kaja Juvan Recent Form

Since struggling during the spring clay-court season, Juvan has found success from Wimbledon onwards. After qualifying for The Championships and winning a match in the main draw, she backed that result up by reaching a quarterfinal in Hungary as a qualifier and then qualifying for, and reaching the third round at, the U.S. Open. She was thumped by her good friend Iga Swiatek in the third round in New York City, but many players have suffered that same fate before Juvan and many will in the coming years.

The keys for Juvan are just keeping that forehand wing solid and finding a way to protect a pretty underpowered serve.

In this particular match, she’s playing someone who doesn’t have the power or the aggressive mindset to really exploit the serve and on clay, she should have more time when Bulgaru does try and dial up the pace a bit as the surface chews up some of that pop and slows things down.

Return-wise, Juvan is more than capable and if she’s not netting too many shots, she’s certainly a candidate to apply consistent pressure on return.

Miriam Bulgaru Recent Form

Bulgaru has taken one of the more popular routes to get up inside the world’s top-225 amongst players that don’t have many weapons and tend to outlast their opposition and elicit unforced errors.

Playing the clay events at the ITF W25 level and making the occasional run in a W60. That’s been her path to success in 2023, with several quarterfinals, semifinals and finals in W25 events in Germany, Italy and Austria, while also making the final of a 60K in Austria.

She doesn’t really hit off either wing and her serve is certainly a liability – especially against more talented opponents. It’s all about incredible consistency and ball retrieval for the Romanian.

She’ll have to rely heavily on those aspects of her game in this contest and hope for the more erratic forehand from Juvan if she’s to keep things close on Thursday.

Kaja Juvan vs Miriam Bulgaru Head to Head – Stat of the Match

The two have met just once in the past, with Juvan winning by three games in a third set on clay four years ago. That was a while back though, with Juvan being just 18 years old at the time.

I don’t think I’m going out too far on a limb when I say that since then, Juvan has progressed far more than Bulgaru.

As for the stat to watch in this match, it has to be Bulgaru’s ability to win points on serve. This season at the ITF level, we’ve seen her win fewer than 50% of first-serve points and just 40% of points behind her second delivery in matches that we have data for.

That is incredibly poor and something that should have Juvan salivating when playing return games.

Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on September 14th, 2023. Odds may now differ.
