No dice with Sebastian Baez, who reverted to his old hard-court form in a lopsided loss to Jurij Rodionov.

Jan Choinski vs Joao Lucas Reis da Silva Expert Tip

While I believe both of these guys prefer the altitude and clay courts, I don’t think the gap between them is as large as the odds imply.

Reis da Silva is far more inconsistent, but he also has the game that produces more rewards, along with the higher risk.

As we’ll get into more in a minute, Choinski hasn’t exactly been lighting it up of late, with bigger hitters finding success against him.

  • Expert Tip: Reis da Silva to win at 3.15 with Unibet, using /10 stakes.

Odds as at 4:30 am UK Time on October 2nd, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Read on for more expert insights.

Jan Choinski Recent Form

Since winning the Meerbusch Challenger in mid-August, Choinski hasn’t been all that great. He found a few victories in Bad Waltersdorf at a Challenger, before being absolutely routed by Dennis Novak in the quarterfinals.

It’s not like his losses have come to the more talented players at that level either. Vit Kopriva is a solid player, as is Duje Ajdukovic, but neither has really had much-sustained success.

Reis da Silva is another player with a big game that has looked decent in the past at elevation and that fits the bill to potentially pull off this upset.

It’s tough to take form from sea-level tournaments too seriously when playing at nearly 700 metres of altitude, as I think the samples from events played in altitude are far more relevant.

Joao Lucas Reis da Silva Recent Form

The Brazilian’s results appear to be as hit or miss as his play on the courts can be.

He has played Choinski very close in altitude already this season and made a Challenger final in Ecuador in elevated conditions last year as well.

With such big weapons from the baseline, but a penchant of hitting unforced errors, these conditions with thinner air tend to favour him, since it helps keep points shorter, which means fewer balls each rally and less chance of one going awry.

As someone who has shown the ability to pull off upsets and keep things close before at altitude, I’m happy to back him here in a spot where his results at other events seem to be impacting his price disproportionately.

Jan Choinski vs Joao Lucas Reis da Silva H2H – Stat of the Match

As I mentioned above, Choinski did win the lone match they’ve played. It was earlier this season in San Luis Potosi (another clay altitude tournament), but each set got to 5-5 before the Brit managed to clinch each of the two they played.

With decent serves, holds of serve should be plentiful in this matchup, which almost by default means I’d expect this one to be fairly close. Getting someone at 3.15 odds in a match my numbers show is closer more often than not is a winning long-term proposition to me.
