Odds as at 2:00 am UK Time on February 15th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
I think this is the perfect matchup for Cobolli to exploit to reach the quarterfinals in Delray Beach. The relatively slow courts should afford him more time to set up his big groundstrokes, and his opponent’s lack of firepower should also assist in that regard.
From a betting standpoint, the runs that we saw Svajda go on last summer have him a tad overvalued in my books. While he did have plenty of success, he also played in somewhat weak fields when he was racking up those match victories. That distorts the form a bit in my book, and it means opposing him shows decent value in betting markets every so often.

Flavio Cobolli Recent Form
Though he’s a lucky loser in this main draw, Cobolli has looked plenty dangerous. He lost from a set up in qualifying to Nicolas Moreno de Alboran (who himself made the second round of the main draw), but he looked good against Illya Marchenko and came back from a really erratic start to beat the solid Taro Daniel.
He has a pretty explosive game and should certainly be a bit more aggressive than his American counterpart in this matchup.
We saw some of his ability to translate his play to hard courts down under, where he qualified for the Australian Open and made a run to the third round as a qualifier, which has helped lift his ranking to No. 72.
If he can avoid getting erratic and play with a decent amount of margin for error, the Italian should find himself in the quarterfinals.
Zachary Svajda Recent Form
It’s been a fairly slow start to the 2024 season for the 21-year-old. He did make the final of a Challenger in Indian Wells, but the fields in both of those weeks were particularly weak, so it’s hard to take away much from wins against players like Strong Kirchheimer, Sebastian Fanselow and Bor Artnak.
I mentioned the runs he made in the summer against some other semi-shallow fields and I think we saw how tough it can be for him stepping up against better competition. He has several losses as a favourite and in his first match of a tournament already this season.
His three wins on the trot so far this week are impressive, but none of them really change my mind about his relatively underpowered game in this matchup.
Flavio Cobolli vs Zachary Svajda H2H – Stat of the Match
No prior meeting between the two youngsters, which is a bit surprising, considering they’ve both been pretty strong at the Challenger level.
Perhaps it comes down to the fact that one plays primarily in Europe at that level, while the other is more comfortable on home soil in the United States and around North America, but it’s still somewhat surprising to me that they’ve yet to meet.
