Felix Auger Aliassime vs Leandro Riedi Swiss Indoors Basel Expert Tip: Swiss Up and Comer to Keep Things Close at Home
Felix Auger Aliassime vs Leandro Riedi (Swiss Indoors Basel): Wednesday, October 25th
Lovely stuff from Alexander Shevchenko, who took it to Stan Wawrinka in the first set and then withstood some incredibly low-margin powerful tennis that was played perfectly by Wawrinka to win the second as well. Nice profitable match from our Tuesday preview.
For our ATP preview on Wednesday, the value once again lies primarily at the Swiss Indoors Basel 500 tournament. Let’s look at Felix Auger Aliassime vs Leandro Riedi.

Felix Auger Aliassime vs Leandro Riedi Expert Tip
Love the youngster to keep things close here and even potentially win this one outright. He has the big serving, flat hitting game to succeed on quick courts and Auger Aliassime has a win or two lately, but is still mired in a terrible run of form, as he simply can’t find the range from either wing in baseline rallies at the moment.
I’m happy to go back to the well on Wednesday and back another explosive youngster who has been priced up at a discount by the markets in Basel.

Felix Auger Aliassime Recent Form
It’s been a real tough 2023 season since Indian Wells (way back in March) for the Canadian.
He’s won just five matches at tour level since the early March Masters event and only once has he won twice at a single tournament – last week in Tokyo.
At that event in Japan, he played an incredibly close opening two sets against Aleksandar Vukic and then wiping away Sebastian Ofner (neither particularly strong tour-level hard courters), before he was sent packing himself by Marcos Giron in a fairly straightforward contest.
With a huge serve, big forehand and strong athletic abilities, it’s no surprise that Auger Aliassime managed to push himself into the top tier of the men’s game.
Lately though, he simply can’t finish points quickly enough and has completely lost the range on both his forehand and backhand wings. Constant unforced errors make it really tough to actually win tennis matches.
The quicker courts here keeping points should help him, but that also holds true for his opponent, who is a huge server in his own right.
Auger Aliassime has done enough in the past to earn the right to be a favourite here, but I’m not sure he should be a pretty strong one, as the market would suggest.
Leandro Riedi Recent Form
The 21-year-old hasn’t exactly been lighting the tennis world on fire either of late, but taking a set against Andy Murray and not losing either of the two he lost in lopsided fashion at the Davis Cup isn’t the worst loss, and a three-set defeat to another huge prospect in Jakub Mensik in U.S. Open qualifying isn’t the worst either (especially since Mensik really had the tennis world turning its head).
Filip Misolic isn’t the best player on hard courts, but Stockholm played relatively slow for an indoor event, and that surely benefited the Austrian in a match the market didn’t really take court speed into account for.
Riedi has picked up some strong results this season, including a recent Challenger Tour final in Winnipeg, Canada, and he certainly has the game to pull off a few surprises on home soil.
With a big serve and strong forehand that he hits pretty flat, the quicker courts and slight altitude should certainly help him rack up the holds of serve.
In any match where a 3.00-priced underdog can construct holds of serve with relative ease, I’m going to back them in what could end up being a coin-flip style match.
Felix Auger Aliassime vs Leandro Riedi H2H – Stat of the Match
Riedi hasn’t played very much at tour level yet, so these two have yet to cross paths.
Statistically, it’ll be interesting to see if Auger Aliassime can do better than his 16% break rate this season so far on hard courts.
While it’s not the toughest opponent, Riedi’s serve and the surface and conditions on offer may make it really tough for Auger Aliassime to improve that number.
If he can’t, it could be another early exit for the Montreal native.
