Erika Andreeva vs Andreea Mitu Open Angers Arena Loire Expert Tip: Oppose Mitu Again on Thursday
Erika Andreeva vs Andreea Mitu (Open Angers Arena Loire): Thursday, December 7th
No bet on Wednesday, as Rebecca Peterson withdrew. Always happy when players do that instead of playing banged up and costing me a bet.
For Thursday’s WTA preview, we’ll go back to the Open Angers Arena Loire 125K event and look at Erika Andreeva vs Andreea Mitu as I continue to oppose the Romanian clay courter who should be getting even less credit than she is.

Erika Andreeva vs Andreea Mitu Expert Tip
Well, I opposed Mitu on Wednesday, and though she came through, the best wasn’t lost. That’s because, as mentioned above, Peterson had to withdraw and as a result, Mitu played a lucky loser in Anastasiya Soboleva.
Despite the drop in quality, she still struggled mightily, requiring three sets, nearly 2.5 hours and she even trailed in the deciding set by a break of serve.
Mitu simply is not a hardcourt player. She lacks weapons, can’t take advantage of underpowered opponents and doesn’t play with a flatter ball to take time away from her opposition.
With the way Andreeva has been playing, how consistent she is and the way she can flatten shots out when the ball is left short and hit with impressive angles, should not only win this in straight sets but find at least one lopsided set scoreline en route to the victory.

Erika Andreeva Recent Form
It’s been a solid fall for the elder of the Andreeva sisters (though she’s still just 19 years old herself). She’s nearing a new career high ranking and winning the title in Angers would put her just a few spots away from making her top-100 debut in the women’s rankings – a big feat for any professional tennis player.
She went to the Andorra final last weekend, and reached the final of the Rouen 125K event (as a qualifier) in October as well.
She plays an incredibly consistent style, moves the ball around the court with pinpoint accuracy superbly and though she doesn’t have natural power, she can absolutely punish any balls that float over the net and are sitting up in the forecourt.
She also possesses the surface versatility that someone like her opponent simply does not, giving her another advantage on court.
Andreea Mitu Recent Form
This preview is going to look a lot like yesterday’s.
Mitu is not a good hard court player. She plays with too much spin, there’s too much net clearance on her shots, her first serve is okay, but nothing spectacular (I think against a strong returner like Andreeva, she’s going to really struggle to replicate a first serve win percentage of 68), and she simply hasn’t done a whole heck of a lot on hard courts this season.
Throw in the fact that she needed nearly 2.5 hours to dispatch of Soboleva (a player that isn’t exactly of the highest quality) and faced 17 break points in that win, and I am absolutely keen to oppose her once more.
Erika Andreeva vs Andreea Mitu H2H – Stat of the Match
These two haven’t met before, which isn’t too big of a surprise since Andreeva is only 19 years old.
Much like yesterday, I want to point to the discrepancy in elo ratings on hard courts between these two. It’s nearly 400 points once again. I know that Peterson was a 3.5-game favourite, whereas Andreeva is up at 5 games, but keep in mind, Peterson had the injury concerns baked into that price.
With a matchup edge, a player that is in form and known for fitness, I have no issue backing Andreeva to win this in straight sets, with plenty of wiggle room thanks to a total of 19.5 games.
