Elena Rybakina vs Mirra Andreeva (China Open): Wednesday, October 4th

Another win that saw our player lose just a few games from start to finish. This time it was Mirra Andreeva beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova convincingly in Beijing.

For Wednesday, we’ll once again head to the China Open as one of the year’s biggest events on the remaining schedule for the WTA Tour nears the latter stages and look at Elena Rybakina vs Mirra Andreeva.

Elena Rybakina vs Mirra Andreeva Expert Tip

As much as I was keen on Andreeva against Pavlyuchenkova, I’m not convinced against a player like Rybakina.

Andreeva is a great player to back against those who have some power, but aren’t near the top end of the game or other players that lack in terms of being able to hit through her.

Against those at the top of the game that can out-serve and out-hit her from the baseline, however, she’s still a player that can be made to look her age.

Look at two of her three previous impressive runs this year in Madrid and at Wimbledon. After a string of wins that turned the heads of the tennis world, Andreeva was dispatched with relative ease by Aryna Sabalenka in the Spanish capital and then in three sets by Madison Keys in London.

Rybakina fits that profile well in terms of elite power on both the serve and forehand, but with the ability to play six or seven balls if needed to finish points.

  • Expert Tip: Rybakina -3.5 Games at 1.76 with Unibet, using 4/10 stakes.
Note: Available at 1.83 with Pinnacle.

Odds as at 12:30 am UK Time on October 4th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Elena Rybakina Recent Form

Don’t look now, but after a summer that saw her retire from one match and not look like herself in others, Rybakina has gotten off to a hot start in Beijing.

She’s now won all four of her sets and won three of them by a margin of 6-2 or better.

The monster serve and elite forehand, along with the flat-hitting style that is rewarded on quicker surfaces have worked wonders for her to this point, and perhaps the most impressive part of her run to this point? Beating two women with fairly strong serves by a wide margin.

The opponent is completely different this time around, but also doesn’t possess the most naturally powerful serve out there, so while she’ll have to be more patient from the baseline, she should also be able to find more opportunities on the return of serve.

For me, it’ll take someone that can find cheap points and look for the rare opportunity on return to topple Rybakina this week.

Mirra Andreeva Recent Form

Much like Rybakina, the young Russian has absolutely demolished much of her opposition en route to this stage of the China Open.

Now, no one she’s played is near the level of someone like her Kazakh counterpart in this one, but it’s been impressive nonetheless.

She’s incredibly consistent from the baseline, has uncanny shotmaking skills for a 16-year-old prospect and has shown several times now this season that on quicker surfaces, she can play with more aggression and get more purchase on her serve and groundstrokes with the assistance of the courts.

Problem for me is that, as mentioned earlier, she can struggle against this profile of player, and much bigger servers than her had very little luck in slowing down Rybakina in the previous few rounds.

Unless the world No. 5 is going to be uncharacteristically error prone from the baseline, it’s tough to construct a path to victory for the youngster.

Elena Rybakina vs Mirra Andreeva H2H – Stat of the Match

No head-to-head record to speak of thanks to Andreeva’s age, much like against Pavlyuchenkova.

In terms of stats, there is no way in my mind that an advantage of over 300 points in hard-court blended elo rating (as we have in this spot) can have a handicap of under 4.5 or 5 games.

This is a huge overreaction to a few wins that weren’t against the same calibre player as Rybakina.
