Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lesia Tsurenko U.S. Open Preview and Expert Tip: Prop to Back in Second Round Encounter
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lesia Tsurenko (U.S. Open): Thursday, August 31st
Well, after a pair of wins to open the week on the women’s previews, we lose Danielle Collins on the handicap. How did that happen? She led by a set and break on two separate occasions then had triple break point at 4-4 in the second set. What’s worse she had match points in the tiebreak for our tickets to be refunded on a win of exactly four games. Another loss from a dominant lead. Feels like the analysis to start the U.S. Open is there, just need to keep plugging away!
The other half of the draw plays out the second round on Thursday, as we continue to whittle the field down in New York City. Let’s preview Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lesia Tsurenko from the WTA side of things.

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lesia Tsurenko Expert Tip
Well, this one is a prop I like to look at a lot in women’s tennis at grand slams where I know it will be available.
With breaks of serve far more common in the women’s game, and Tsurenko being one of the worst servers among those that play regularly at the main tour level, I’m happy to oppose her in that specific regard here.
What’s more, Alexandrova plays an aggressive style from the baseline and has huge groundstrokes that can punish the weak Tsurenko first and second serves.
With what should be 12 or more service games for Tsurenko, Alexandrova wouldn’t even need to crack the 50% mark in terms of breaking Tsurenko’s game.
Considering that Tsurenko has been broken repeatedly all season long by worse competition, this number seems a full game too low at a minimum. Even at this expensive price.
Another bonus is that if this match goes three sets, it’s hard to imagine a world in which this wager loses.

- Expert Tip: Ekaterina Alexandrova over 4.5 breaks of serve at 1.73 with Bet365, using 6/10 stakes.
Ekaterina Alexandrova Recent Form
It’s been an excellent summer for Alexandrova, who won the title on grass in the Netherlands leading into Wimbledon. Her strong play extended to Berlin, where she reached a semifinal, Wimbledon, as she made the second week and it has continued into the hard-court summer.
After a really poor showing in Cincinnati, the Russian intelligently headed to Cleveland, where she made the final and built up some confidence and strong form heading into the year’s final grand slam.
In the opening round, she got past Leylah Fernandez, who looked like herself again after returning to North American hard courts.
I’m happy to back Alexandrova and her powerful game here against someone like Tsurenko in this particular market.
Lesia Tsurenko Recent Form
Known for her retirements, Tsurenko’s play in 2023 has actually been quite impressive.
She put together a great record at some lower level events on hard courts in the early stages of the season and is now 3-1 this summer with a withdrawal prior to the Montreal main draw (that she won two matches to get into).
I’m not too concerned about a potential retirement here, as this particular bet would grade once it hits, whether the match finishes or not.
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head – Stat of the Match
Tsurenko has actually done an excellent job in the past absorbing Alexandrova’s pace and managing to beat her all four times they’ve played.
Now, most of those wins came before Alexandrova had really bloomed into the player she is this year, and it’s also worth noting that almost all of those matches were close ones, even if played in straight sets.
Even though I do believe that Alexandrova wins this match, a repeat of their past results wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world either. A 24-game match means we’d see 12 service games for Tsurenko and with how poor her serve is, finding 5 breaks along the way shouldn’t be too much of an issue for Alexandrova.
The stat of the match here can only be the service hold rate for Tsurenko over the last 52 weeks on hard courts. It sits at just 53.5% and that’s without filtering for the quality of competition.
