Diana Shnaider vs Panna Udvardy LP Open Expert Tip: Back the Longshot on a Day with Little Value
Diana Shnaider vs Panna Udvardy (LP Open): Wednesday, November 15th
Not to be for Sara Errani, who was outplayed in the opening set, before blowing three set points in the second for a chance to force a decider and use her superior endurance and stamina to emerge victorious.
For Wednesday, we’ll look again at the LP Open, a WTA 125K tournament in Colina, Chile, and preview Diana Shnaider vs Panna Udvardy.

Diana Shnaider vs Panna Udvardy Expert Tip
I’m not sure there’s a lot of value to be had on the day in Chile, but I will say that backing Udvardy here may be a decent wager with a small stake.
We know that Shnaider built her ranking during this stretch last year and that she loves clay courts. We also know, however, that after a horrendous first nine months to the 2023 season, Udvardy has begun to show signs of life again of late and does prefer clay courts in her own right.
I’m not advocating that she should be the favourite, but 3.00 on a surface she likes, playing against an aggressive player that does tend to spray unforced errors from time to time seems like a bit of a stretch I’m willing to take a chance on.
- Expert Tip: Udvardy to win at 3.00 with bet365, using 1/10 stakes.
Odds as at 2:30 am UK Time on November 15th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Diana Shnaider Recent Form
It’s an important stretch in the coming weeks for the Russian, who used this period last year to build her ranking up inside the top 100. She was a quarterfinalist (as a qualifier) here in last year’s edition of this event.
She backed that up with another quarterfinal in Buenos Aires and then the title in Montevideo.
Her campaign to defend some of those points begins Wednesday, and it isn’t the easiest of first-round assignments (especially considering there are some positively puzzling first-round encounters).
She’s coming from a few impressive runs on the quicker hard courts found in Ningbo and Nanchang, China, proving once more that against lesser fields she is a force.
She’s a lefty who can play with spin, but also isn’t shy to unload with her forehand and look to hit big and dictate play.
Her familiarity with the elevated conditions here in Colina should help her, as she is error-prone to an extent, and those types of players can struggle when playing in a bit of altitude.
Panna Udvardy Recent Form
The Hungarian has had a pretty poor 2023 campaign, but the fact she’s still inside the top 125 and only about 40 spots off her career-high ranking speaks to the rebound she’s seen this fall.
She isn’t going to blow you away with her physicality or consistency, and she doesn’t possess a bevvy of power, but she does have a nice forehand, is comfortable on clay and can stick around from the baseline with some decent players – particularly on clay courts.
The first nine months of the season saw her move past the second round of a tournament just once (she played 22 tournaments in that span). Lately, she’s reached the quarters in three of the last four events she’s played and reached the final in ITFs in Macon and Charleston.
With her comfort on red clay and her form turning, I’m not sure she should be given just a 33% chance of winning, even against someone as tough as Shnaider.
Diana Shnaider vs Panna Udvardy H2H – Stat of the Match
The only meeting between these two came last year on hard courts, where Shnaider won by a single break in each set. I do think Shnaider is much better when it comes to adapting her game to hard courts, so I’m not sure that result on its own really dissuades me all that much.
I’m anxious to see whether Udvardy can extend points enough to coax some errors from the aggressive Shnaider with the thinner air giving her the chance to draw those errors at a higher rate.
If she can, while dictating with her forehand in her own service games, she certainly has a path to victory.
