Diana Shnaider vs Elsa Jacquemot (U.S. Open): Thursday, August 24th

No recap for the women’s bet on Wednesday, as Anhelina Kalinina withdrew from the event in Cleveland, voiding our selection. If a player isn’t feeling like they can play at 100%, we’ll take a pre-match withdrawal every single time!

Thursday’s WTA preview takes us to New York City for U.S. Open qualifying. Everyone playing on Thursday is just two wins away from the main draw of the year’s final grand slam event. Let’s dig deeper into Diana Shnaider vs Elsa Jacquemot.

In this article:

Diana Shnaider vs Elsa Jacquemot Expert Tip

Shnaider played some exciting tennis on Wednesday in her opening round of qualifying action. It was just impressive in its own right, but even more so because she had one of the tougher draws in American Hailey Baptiste.

With a strong lefty game, aggressive mindset and big forehand to dictate play with, she’s set up well for hard courts.

As for Jacquemot, I still see her as a clay courter. She hasn’t had a great amount of success on hard courts, and outside of her first serve, she lacks a weapon to really dictate play with.

The matchup, along with the edge I give Shnaider on the surface have me seeing value in backing the Russian.

Read on for more expert insights.

  • Expert Tips: Shnaider to win at 1.62 with Pinnacle, using 4/10 stakes. Shnaider -3 Games at 2.01 with Pinnacle, using 2/10 stakes.

Diana Shnaider Recent Form

After a strong finish to last year that saw her vault her ranking into the world’s top-100, Shnaider was seen sparingly after the Australian swing, as she elected to play NCAA tennis for the spring at NC State University.

That led to a few tournaments with little success, due to what was likely the lack of consistent play on the professional circuit.

We’ve seen her play more consistently this summer, and she’s since reached the semifinal in Hamburg on the red clay, with losses only coming to talented players like Noma Noha Akugue and Jodie Burrage in the time since.

The first win at Flushing Meadows that I alluded to earlier was also very impressive, considering Baptiste’s talent and power.

With a strong lefty game, power and spin to play with more margin, I’m curious to see if the 19-year-old can replicate her success from down under in January.

Elsa Jacquemot Recent Form

The 20-year-old from France, by contrast, has been playing on the pro circuit all season, though the success has been rare.

She hasn’t won back-to-back main draw matches at a tournament since March in her native France on indoor hard courts.

The first serve is strong, but once the point shifts to the baseline, she too often clings on defensively and needs her opposition to commit an error.

The second serve is also vulnerable to being attacked – something that could come into play in this matchup against an aggressive Shnaider, who won’t be shy when it comes to attacking sitting-duck-like second deliveries.

Diana Shnaider vs Elsa Jacquemot H2H – Stat of the Match

These two have never squared off before at the professional level.

Statistically, these two aren’t even close when it comes to tour-level play. Shnaider has posted a respectable hold plus break percentage of 100% in 2023. That same metric for Jacquemot? Down at a measly 66%.

Tough to back Jacquemot who has struggled for form, isn’t great on the surface and doesn’t match up well with her opponent.
