Dennis Novak vs Jan Choinski (LAYJET-Open): Friday, September 22nd
No dice for Mark Lajal who lost his rhythm on serve late in the first set and didn’t really get it back.

Dennis Novak vs Jan Choinski Expert Tip
In a battle of two relatively big servers playing in altitude on the dirt, I’m going to side with the guy with the much more capable baseline game.
Novak is comfortable on the surface and has the attacking game that should play well in the elevated conditions as well. Choinski is a fine player at this level, but I just don’t see what he does from the baseline that stands out compared to Novak.

Dennis Novak Recent Form
It hasn’t been the best summer results-wise for Novak, but I will say that with the exception of Matteo Martineau, the matches he’s lost on red clay in recent times have come against the likes of Lukas Klein, Thiago Seyboth Wild and Dimitar Kuzmanov in relatively close affairs. Those are all players I rate a tad more highly than his opponent here.
He also qualified with a nice win in Kitzbuhel (another event on home soil and played at elevation) and has looked strong this week dispatching his countryman Sandro Kopp with relative ease and then beating the in-form and tricky Vitaliy Sachko.
With a big serve that should rack up cheap points and a really nice forehand, he should have no problems controlling play. The unforced errors that can creep into his game and that Choinski will look to grind out of him should be reduced to a certain extent with the altitude helping to keep points shorter.
Jan Choinski Recent Form
As is often the case at this level, recent tournaments have been a bit feast or famine for the Brit.
While he reached the quarters in Bad Waltersdorf and won the tournament in Meerbusch, he was also sent packing in rather lopsided fashion in his opening round tilts in Szczecin and Luedenscheid.
I actually rate Choinski as a decent clay court Challenger level guy, with a strong serve and good shot tolerance. He’s just stuck going up against a guy who is a borderline main tour level player and whose ceiling talent wise is much, much higher.
Dennis Novak vs Jan Choinski H2H – Stat of the Match
The lone meeting between Novak and Choinski happened last year at a Challenger in Szczecin. Novak wasn’t troubled by Choinski in that one, and it also took place on clay.
While not in the same conditions, I actually think Novak benefits from the baseline more here than in Szczecin. The scoreline may be closer just because of it being a tad easier to find holds here, but in the grand scheme of things I think I like Novak in this matchup even more here just to win than I would in less altitude.
