Dayana Yastremska vs Anastasija Sevastova Expert Tip
I’m going to continue picking on spots where I believe certain players are overvalued this week, and this match in Andorra la Vella is another perfect opportunity.
Sevastova has played very little tennis in the last few years and her opening round performance was strong after the first several games, but was incredibly underpowered, both on serve and in terms of her return game.
Yastremska has her faults with a relatively underpowered serve of her own and unforced errors, but the Latvian could struggle to punish her light second delivery and her slice and dice game looked much closer to underpowered pushing than what it once was.
Finally, motivation and needing wins to get over the line for grand slam qualification is no reason to bet on a player by itself, but it is nice to know in this case the Yastremska does need the win to keep her hopes of main draw direct acceptance at the Australian Open going. It’s no guarantee, but it does provide some assurance that she won’t be tossing in the towel if things go wrong for 20 minutes.
Odds as at 1:00 am UK Time on November 30th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Dayana Yastremska Recent Form
Trying to parse the form of the 23-year-old has always been a fool’s errand. There may be no player as volatile week to week as Yastremska.
What we do know is she has the talent to reach the upper echelons of the women’s game if (and that’s a big “if”) she can start playing with even the slightest bit of margin for error and add a bit more juice to her serve.
The problem? In years on tour, she’s yet to show any signs of progress in those departments.
Nevertheless, her strength on court is certainly in being able to tee off against underpowered serves and those who are underpowered from the baseline. At the moment, Sevastova fits both categories nicely. If she hadn’t been gone for so long and wasn’t over 30 years old at this point, or if she had the elite slice and variety she once did, I’d be inclined to think she could extract the requisite errors from the Ukrainian’s racquet.
That isn’t the case at the moment though, and I am tempted to play some alternate spreads here on top of the -3.5 games, as I believe that more often than not, she wins at least one set in lopsided fashion.
Anastasija Sevastova Recent Form
Speaking about having a hard time evaluating form for players, Sevastova has to be top of the heap. Why? Simply because there is almost no form to break down.
The veteran from Latvia has played precisely one match (her first round in Andorra) since the 2022 Australian Open, where she lost in the first round. Whether it was injury, the tough Covid restrictions while travelling, or just a natural retirement, I’m not sure, but I do know that she’s been gone for a long time and is now 33 years old, which could really complicate matters as it pertains to returning to her best level.
That first rounder got better as the match progressed, but that was against a clay courter with very little power that wasn’t able to hit through her or take advantage of the softer topspin-heavy balls she left sitting up. Yastremska is more than capable of doing both those things.
Dayana Yastremska vs Anastasija Sevastova H2H – Stat of the Match
No prior meetings between these two. Sevastova is a bit older and hasn’t played in almost two years, so it does make sense that these two haven’t crossed paths.
It’s another scenario where even looking at stats is tough since Sevastova doesn’t have any relevant data to look at in nearly 24 months.
That is a big part of the reason I think Yastremska should replicate her 6-2, 6-2 first round victory.
