Christian Langmo vs Donald Young (Atlantic Tire Championships): Wednesday, September 13th

No result to report back on for Tuesday’s tip yet, as the rain forced the match to be suspended after the opening set at the time of writing. Adam Walton did win the final four games of the set to take it 7-5 though, so a decent start.

For Wednesday, we’ll stick with the Atlantic Tire Championships at the ATP Challenger Tour level and look at Christian Langmo vs Donald Young.

In this article:

Christian Langmo vs Donald Young Expert Tip

I’m not particularly big on Langmo’s prospects in terms of reaching the main tour or becoming a star in the sport, but you’d be hard pressed to find a player I wouldn’t back at a price in the 1.60 region against Young.

The 34-year-old is one of the many ageing tennis stars that is leaving the sport in a professional capacity to play pickleball.

Throw in the fact he’s had a horrific season and I’m not sure why he’s being given a 40% chance to win this match.

Read on for more expert insights.

Christian Langmo Recent Form

Currently inside the world’s top-400, Langmo has struggled a bit for main draw wins at the Challenger level, but has racked up a total of 28 hard-court victories this season across the ITF Tour and Challenger Tour.

The 27-year-old’s game isn’t that well-rounded and fairly serve-oriented, but the place he’s in this season is far more impressive than anything his counterpart in this match has managed.

I’m also undeterred by his most recent losses to players like Peter Gojowczyk (a former tour pro who has struggled this year, but can still play at a high level on hard courts), Dan Added who has had a good season or a resurgent and big-hitting Maxime Janvier.

I have him as a 3.5-game favourite, rather than the 2.5 games we can get, so it has to be a fair-sized wager for me.

Donald Young Recent Form

Simply put, there is no form to speak of for Young. There hasn’t been in quite some time either. It’s likely why he’s pulling the plug to head over to the professional pickleball circuit, along with his compatriot Jack Sock.

He’s won just a handful of matches all year, with two of them coming this week in qualifying against two relative unknowns.

The lefty has always struggled to live up to the lofty expectations that were built up in his junior days and his somewhat underpowered game isn’t getting better now in his mid-30s.

I struggle to see what is on his side here, other than the desire for one last push in tennis at a Challenger on home soil.

Christian Langmo vs Donald Young H2H

Young won the lone battle between these two on a hard court last season.

Needless to say though, these two are on very different trajectories, with Langmo playing much better tennis this season than he was a year ago and Young on the verge of retirement.

Statistics wise, Langmo’s 84% hold rate on hard courts at the Challenger level this season is high enough for me to be confident in backing him against a fading Young. His break rate is far from inspiring, but with Young not being the biggest server or hitter, he still may well find enough chances to break to get the job done.
