Tuesday Tennis Best Bet: WTA Lausanne, Chloe Paquet vs Reka Luca Jani
Chloe Paquet vs Reka Luca Jani Best Bet: Tuesday, July 25th
Okay, I give up. No more believing in Kaja Juvan. A loss from a set and break up to Maria Timofeeva was bad. Losing to an immobile, power-centric hard courter (in a rout, no less) in Kaia Kanepi is borderline unforgivable.
For Tuesday, we’ll head over to the tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland and preview the contest that pits Chloe Paquet against Reka Luca Jani.

A good get-right spot for both women, who have reached the main draw thanks to a win in qualifying. After Jani beat Amandine Hesse – who hasn’t really been close to a WTA Tour player her whole career – and Paquet beat Carol Zhao – a Canadian who is pretty poor on clay – one is now assured of a spot in the second round of the main draw.
It would be a boost for both in their 2023 seasons. Jani has been horrific all season, with her pushing, defensive style not able to carry her through matches when her serve has struggled. Paquet, meanwhile, has reached the quarterfinal stage on several occasions this year at the ITF level, but not since May.
I’d venture to say, however, that the players Paquet has lost to this season on the dirt are a little stronger in terms of level on the whole, and that she’s also best poised in this matchup to take advantage of the altitude that helps the effectiveness of serves and powerful groundstrokes.
Where Jani doesn’t possess either of those things, Paquet does utilise a serve-and-grind type style, which should allow her to find more cheap points behind her first delivery than her Hungarian opponent, while also maintaining the consistency required from the baseline to stick with Jani.
Chloe Paquet vs Reka Luca Jani Best Bet
With Jani having had one of the worst seasons we’ve seen from here, even on her preferred clay in quite some time, along with the conditions on offer in Lausanne, I’m going to back Paquet here.
I think she should be a more established favourite in the betting markets in this one.
A hold rate on clay of under 50% simply won’t gain enough from the altitude and the Frenchwoman should still be able to find breaks of serve with regularity.
