Friday Tennis Best Bet: ATP Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev
Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev Best Bet: Friday, July 14th
We’re down to the final three matches at Wimbledon, and what a treat Friday should be! Not only do we have the men’s semifinals, but we have a pair of really strong matchups to decide who reaches the final.
Consider this, heading into the semis, four of the five players that have accumulated the most points on tour this season are the four guys squaring off for a shot at Wimbledon glory.
For our first preview, let’s look at the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev Preview
Fri, July 14th, 15:30 (UK Time)
This one is a clash of styles that should force a few adjustments from each player along the way. The last time Medvedev came up against Alcaraz in the spring, the phenom absolutely crushed him, exploiting his deep return position with a steady dose of serve-and-volleying.
It’s something he was keen to do last match as well against Holger Rune, where he was absolutely dominant behind his serve, allowing the Dane just one look at a break point – which came in his first service game of the match. Considering the athleticism and strong return game of Rune, that should have him well prepared for Medvedev.
The Russian plays an incredibly solid baseline game, giving away very few errors. His first serve also allows him to rack up a fair number of cheap points. His issue? He doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of attacking tennis from the baseline and his style does leave himself vulnerable to certain tactics.
Ultimately, the match comes down to just how much he’ll be able to extract errors from the Alcaraz racquet. The world No. 1 has massive groundstrokes, but that also means he can find himself spraying a few errors if he’s forced to hit enough shots in a given rally.
If he can keep points shorter, he should find plenty of success against Medvedev.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Daniil Medvedev Best Bet
Considering Alcaraz’s quick adjustment to grass-court play and how dominant he’s been so far on the surface relative to Medvedev – whose backhand has proven to be a weakness and who has looked less dominant than expected several times throughout the event – I’m surprised to see this handicap at a number lower than five games.
Alcaraz has the more explosive game, more dimensional game and far fewer holes to exploit than Medvedev on grass. I’ll back the world No. 1 who is on a tear on grass courts to come through in a clear-cut win.
