Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev Expert Tip
As much as I think that Alcaraz wins this match and that I think everyone wants to see yet another epic between him and Novak Djokovic, I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as the markets believe.
Zverev has taken down the top players in the world plenty in the past, and his game is incredibly well rounded, allowing him to compete with anyone on his given day.
Further, we know Alcaraz has dips within matches, primarily because his aggressive style is simply prone to hitting unforced errors for stretches. He nearly dropped a set to Lloyd Harris and he did drop one to Dan Evans. His other opponents were a youngster fairly new on the scene and Dominik Koepfer who was hurt six points into the match.
I certainly Zverev takes one set from him the vast majority of the time and my numbers have him pulling off the upset just over a quarter of the time, meaning I’m seeing some value in that as well.

Carlos Alcaraz Recent Form
Not sure how much we need to get into Alcaraz’s form in 2023. Even the non-tennis fans are beginning to know his name.
He’s won six titles this year and made an additional two finals and two semifinals. He’s already a star and that stardom will only grow in the coming years as he continues to set records of his own and Djokovic eventually retires.
He has power, speed, soft hands, a strong serve, an incredible game at net, you name it, Alcaraz can do it.
Alexander Zverev Recent Form
This season has seen Zverev storm back up the rankings with a vengeance. Already back to 12th in the world rankings-wise, he very well may return to the top-10 in the next edition of the rankings on Monday.
While he’s had a lot of ugly wins this season, winning is winning and the big German has done a lot of it on the court.
He has a title from the ATP 500 clay event in Hamburg, and then deep runs in Dubai, Geneva, at Roland Garros, Halle and Cincinnati.
The elite form is just around the corner, and it makes sense. He has a huge serve, one of the best backhands on tour and strong movement for someone his size. Even the weakness – his forehand – he’s adept at masking by avoiding going too large when rushed and still managing to push it back with depth. When he has the time, he can still unleash from that side, particularly when he goes inside-out.
He does have an elite game, and has pushed and beaten some of the best in the world. If he can make this a scrappy match, he’ll have his shot at winning this one outright.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev H2H – Stat of the Match
Zverev actually has a winning record against Alcaraz, but it should be noted that the only time these two have met in 2023 (a season that has seen Alcaraz improve by leaps and bounds) just once and Alcaraz lost just three games to Zverev.
I do think that record serves as an effective stat though, as it shows just how competitive Zverev can make things against even the best players in the world.
When you have a serve that can rack up cheap points, strong rally tolerance and a weapon from the baseline, you’re always able to keep things close. It’s a matter of the intangibles clicking that will decide if you can actually pull off the upset or not.
