Botic van de Zandschulp vs Roberto Bautista Agut Expert Tip
It’s good to see the Spaniard back on court, but man is he ever off his top level at the moment. Even before taking time off after Gstaad, he had been having a terrible year since the Australian Open, with just one decent result in Halle on grass.
Bautista Agut just doesn’t have the legs anymore to outlast opponents and grind his way into return games to find breaks of serve at a high level.
Throw in the fact that he clearly isn’t physically fit, and I don’t think that this price has gone far enough.
That’s not to say he won’t be back in 2024 looking better again (though at his age, it certainly isn’t a likely outcome), but at the moment I don’t think he’s only one break worse than van de Zandschulp, which is what a 2.5-game or 3-game handicap would imply.

Botic van de Zandschulp Recent Form
After being mired in a terrible slump for a few months, the Dutchman has shown some signs of life of late.
He’s qualified here with an impressive win over a strong serving Arthur Rinderknech and Swiss prospect Mika Brunold. Last week he only lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Antwerp and actually had an early lead in that match, and that was after a nice performance against another strong server in Dominic Stricker.
At the Davis Cup last month he picked up a win over American Tommy Paul as a rather large underdog, and most importantly, he hasn’t really had a bad loss since Winston-Salem when he capped a terrible summer with a loss to Omni Kumar.
The blend of precision and pace has been returning, though errors still come in spurts, but one can see why he was a top-25 player at one point.
He has quite a few strengths, though he doesn’t really possess overwhelming power, which is why when his accuracy wavers, he finds himself in trouble.
If he’s going to continue building his form as he has, he should be able to move past a faltering Bautista Agut without much problem.
Roberto Bautista Agut Recent Form
As I mentioned earlier, since the Australian Open, Bautista Agut has had one strong tournament that came on grass. After missing a few months, he came back at a Challenger event in Malaga, Spain, and he was far from impressive.
He managed a win over Belgian prospect Gilles Arnaud Bailly before losing to Billy Harris – a decent player that we aren’t likely to see ever become a real threat above that level. Last week in Stockholm, he lost to Elias Ymer, who hasn’t exactly lit the tennis world on fire anytime in the last few years either.
He’s far from his best and his physicality is certainly lacking at the moment, which is a problem, since it’s a cornerstone of his game.
Until I see signs of his peak level returning, I’ll go ahead and continue opposing him.
Botic van de Zandschulp vs Roberto Bautista Agut H2H – Stat of the Match
No prior meeting between these two, so it should be interesting to see how this one pans out and how each of them approaches the match.
They both possess decent rally tolerance and can play from both wings, so the tactical approach of each should come into play.
