Odds as of am UK Time on April 16th, 2024. Odds may now differ.
While Marterer has had a terrible start to the 2024 season, the favorite in this match has seen his stock falling in recent times as well. Auger Aliassime has had a tough time stringing wins together, with his titles in Basel being the outliers in recent years.
The talent is undeniable. His serve, forehand, and athleticism are all impressive, but his inability to play out long rallies, construct points, or avoid unforced errors have neutralized those strengths in a big way.
Then there’s the fact that he isn’t a clay court natural and has been pretty poor on the surface in recent times. Marterer may be out of form, but his transition to clay shouldn’t be as tough for him. Our Auger Aliassime vs Marterer predictions are for Marterer to win a set and to win the match.

Felix Auger Aliassime Recent Form
It’s been another tough stretch for the Canadian, who has been dealt some tough draws, along with his bouts of inconsistent play.
It’s likely the reason that he’s still seen as a large favorite in many matchups. Some of his losses have come to players like Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Andrey Rublev. Those aren’t losses that one could hold against him. Winning just one set combined in three losses against Zhizhen Zhang, Flavio Cobolli, and Lorenzo Sonego? Now those are uninspiring results that make me believe that talented players with weapons can trouble him when they’re playing well and he’s coughing up points cheaply with unforced errors.
He’s only won consecutive matches twice this year, and it hasn’t happened since Montpellier, where he won a nailbiter in his opening match against Arthur Cazaux.
I’m just not sure that he should still be priced as a dominant favorite as though he was still part of the top-15, even against someone like Marterer who may be out of form.
Maximilian Marterer Recent Form
As I’ve alluded to, this match may not be the prettiest. We’ve got two players struggling to find the range on their forehands, and neither has won very much of late.
That said, Marterer is no slouch and certainly has the talent to be competitive. He has a big lefty game, and if he’s smart, he should be able to utilize that lefty forehand in his service games to keep Auger Aliassime pinned to his much weaker backhand side. Along with his ability to infuse spin into his groundstrokes – which can cause players to overhit and sail shots, another way to elicit mistakes from the already error-prone Auger Aliassime – there is certainly a path to victory for the 28-year-old.
Do I think the German should be the favorite? No. Do I think he has a better chance than the odds imply? Absolutely.
Felix Auger Aliassime vs Maximilian Marterer H2H – Stat of the Match
We’ve yet to see these two play each other at the professional level.
I’m interested to see who can limit their errors, as that may be all it takes to come away with the win in this one.
Auger Aliassime has the pedigree, but Marterer has plenty of firepower and a weak righty backhand to pick on if he plays his cards right.
