Arantxa Rus vs Gabriela Knutson Expert Tip

  • Expert Tip: Knutson to win
  • Best Odds: 2.16
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 2/10

Nothing stands out as tremendous value on Monday, but I do like a small stake wager on the Czech in this matchup. I’m not a fan of Rus on hard courts, as her topspin-heavy style is much more conducive to success on clay.

She also prefers clay courts and hasn’t had much success of late on hard courts.

This strikes me as a reputational price more than a deserved one, so I’ll back the underdog that has slowly but surely built up her ranking in 2023.

Odds as at 12:00 am UK Time on December 11th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Read on for more expert insights.

Arantxa Rus Recent Form

She may be 43-8 this year on clay courts, but put her on a hard court, and it’s a totally different story. Without much power, her game is vulnerable, and because she plays with a lot of topspin, the ball tends to sit up a bit too much, where most opponents can tee off on her shots and seize control of points.

Since late August, the world No. 51 has played seven tournaments on hard courts and won just three matches – all coming against players that aren’t very strong themselves.

Whether it be her game style or her lack of success on the courts this year, I just can’t have her being a favourite in a match played on an indoor hard court.

Gabriela Knutson Recent Form

Between indoor and outdoor tournaments, Knutson has racked up a good amount of wins this season, propelling her to the top-175 in the rankings.

She’s got some quality wins as well, and even her loss in Angers this past week was a tight two-set affair against a strong veteran in Alize Cornet.

With a more traditional hard-court game and a preference for the surface, I can’t see why she’s the underdog here, other than the market just being far more familiar with Rus, who has been on tour far longer.

Arantxa Rus vs Gabriela Knutson H2H – Stat of the Match

No prior matches between the two. Knutson hasn’t played a lot in her career on the pro tour, despite being 26 years old.

Should be interesting to see how an emerging talent with a game that plays well on hard courts take on a more established player who may struggle given the conditions.
