Arantxa Rus vs Elsa Jacquemot Open BLS de Limoges Expert Tip: Oppose Rus Once More Indoors
Arantxa Rus vs Elsa Jacquemot (Open BLS de Limoges): Wednesday, December 13th
Tough scene on Tuesday, as Kristina Mladenovic loses badly to one of the worst players on hard courts on tour by elo ratings. The only silver lining is that we correctly identified the 1.71 price point as being incorrect. That closed at 1.49.
For Wednesday at the Open BLS de Limoges, let’s break down Arantxa Rus vs Elsa Jacquemot as the year’s final WTA 125K continues in France.

Arantxa Rus vs Elsa Jacquemot Expert Tip
I’m going to take another crack at opposing Rus in this one, as I don’t believe one win (admittedly that win was fairly dominant) is enough to sway my mind on a player and their strengths and weaknesses.
Jacquemot is also more of a clay court player in my mind, but after seeing her serve improve and her look much more competent on hard courts, I’ve upgraded her in my ratings on the surface.
She can find free points behind the first serve here and there and isn’t as reliant as she once was on her opponents making mistakes. She’s also pretty strong in the consistency department in her own right since she did come up on the clay courts that demand more consistent and reliable play.
Odds as at 4:00 am on December 13th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Arantxa Rus Recent Form
The form of Rus really depends on what surface you want to look at. She was incredible this season on the slower red clay, was more serviceable than one would think earlier in 2023 on hard courts and positively dreadful during the summer and fall on hard courts.
As I mentioned in Monday’s preview, her game isn’t really made for playing on the surface, with the kick serves being less effective and more attackable and the heavy topspin from the baseline sitting up a bit too much and not kicking through the courts enough to make it an effective attacking option.
I’m surprised at how easily she dispatched Gabriela Knutson in the first round, but I’m also not going to let one successful match completely change my perception of her and her game, nor will one win move my pricing on her by too much.
Elsa Jacquemot Recent Form
I’d call the 20-year-old’s season an up-and-down affair, but in reality, it was more a tale of two seasons within one than anything.
The beginning of the year and through the early parts of the summer was as underwhelming as they come. The end of season? Much more impressive – though it wasn’t like she was blowing people away and turning the heads of average tennis fans.
Either way, there was a noticeable improvement with her first serve and I think a pair of nice runs at fairly high-level ITF tournaments indoors showed that development, as well as a newfound confidence on the surface.
She doesn’t have that impressive record in her 125K appearances in recent weeks, but the results themselves are nothing to shake one’s head at. She beat Rebecca Peterson (who is best on hard courts, though she was returning from an injury absence that week) in three sets and then lost by a razor-thin margin against Jessika Ponchet in a third-set tiebreak.
A loss to fellow young gun and Frenchwoman Clara Burel is nothing to be ashamed about on a quicker court, especially when it was by a singular break each set, and she won by a margin in her opening match this week, which is exactly what you’d expect against Berfu Cengiz.
Arantxa Rus vs Elsa Jacquemot H2H – Stat of the Match
They’ve played twice in the past, with Rus beating Jacquemot once last season and once more this year. They were both in straight sets, which is why the market may not love the Frenchwoman here, but they were also both on clay.
While I do believe both are more comfortable on the dirt, Rus’ game has a much larger delta when it comes to clay court and hard court tennis than Jacquemot’s does. If she’s going to find a place to notch a win against her more veteran opponent, this would probably be the place.
