Ana Bogdan vs Rebeka Masarova Transylvania Open Expert Tip: Underdog Undervalued in Hard Court Duel
Ana Bogdan vs Rebeka Masarova (Transylvania Open): Friday, October 20th
A nice win for Nuria Parrizas Diaz, who had to save a match point before roaring back to dominate the latter stages of the match. As much as I complain about blown leads, that larger stake comeback felt great. Nice to have those go our way, and we have to enjoy it when they do!
To wrap up the week of previews on the WTA Tour, it’s over to the Transylvania Open in Romania to break down the match between Ana Bogdan vs Rebeka Masarova.

Ana Bogdan vs Rebeka Masarova Expert Tip
Wild pricing here in my books for this one.
First, let’s identify why the market has Bogdan as a favourite. She’s on a seven-match win streak and has been playing strong tennis. No denying that.
Now, why do I believe Masarova deserves to be the favourite here despite that fact? For one, she’s got the bigger game for me on an indoor hard court that players have described as not fast, but not slow – in other words a medium-paced surface.
Then there’s the fact that Bogdan is coming off a marathon match against a talented, but still young prospect on Thursday.
I can’t have Masarova as the underdog here, despite the fact that she struggled a bit with Miriam Bulgaru (who doesn’t exactly play the same style as Bogdan).
- Expert Tip: Masarova to win at 2.14 with Unibet (available at 2.28 with Pinnacle), using 10/10 stakes.
Odds as at 4:00 am UK Time on October 20th, 2023. Odds may now differ.

Ana Bogdan Recent Form
As I mentioned above, Bogdan is on a seven-match win streak.
While impressive, it’s important to note that five of those came last month on a clay court and shouldn’t be looked at for anything more than potential momentum – a factor that is hard to quantify in a handicap.
This week, she beat an underpowered Viktoriya Tomova and then struggled mightily with Nikola Bartunkova. Neither of those results inspires confidence that she should be the favourite in a match with a big serving and big hitting WTA level opponent.
The fact she needed well over three hours to wrap up her contest with Bartunkova on Thursday is also something I believe isn’t being weighed up by the market in this one.
Rebeka Masarova Recent Form
The fall stretch hasn’t been quite as kind to Masarova, but she did make a quarterfinal in Guangzhou, where she lost in a really close match against Magda Linette. After that she retired against Linda Fruhvirtova after winning the first set 6-1 and then to Kateryna Baindl in her first match back after that retirement.
This week, she crushed a strong prospect in Noma Noha Akugue and then struggled a bit with Bulgaru, who plays a very defensive style that can drive power players nuts if they can’t hit through her. That shouldn’t be an issue with Bogdan, who will play with more pace and try to play the role of the aggressor as well.
With a huge serve and forehand combination, and playing someone who can deal with pace but isn’t dangerous in the counterpunching department, I really like the Spaniard here.
Throw in the fact that Bogdan could be tired and that dealing with the power Masarova has to offer requires a decent amount of energy, and I actually have Masarova priced as the favourite here.
Ana Bogdan vs Rebeka Masarova H2H – Stat of the Match
They’ve only played once before, with Masarova winning in three sets at the U.S. Open in 2021.
The caveat? That match was an absolute epic, lasting hours and being decided in three tiebreaks.
I still think this is a coin flip at worst and with a few qualitative factors thrown in, we’re getting an incredible price in this spot.
