Nice win for Sloane Stephens, and she did so in dominant fashion that not even I saw coming, losing just four games to Elise Mertens.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Emma Navarro Expert Tip
As is the case with many Sasnovich matches, we have a nice stylistic contrast here, with a more steady Navarro who has really risen up the rankings this year taking on the borderline reckless hitting of the Belarussian.
Sasnovich is one of those players that can beat anyone on her day, when her baseline game is firing on all cylinders and rarely missing, but that higher risk game also comes with plenty of unforced errors that sees her lose matches she probably shouldn’t as well.
As such, she’s a fun player to back as an underdog, but oppose when she’s favoured in the betting markets.

- Expert Tip: Navarro to win at 1.99 with Pinnacle, using 2/10 stakes.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich Recent Form
Thanks to the aforementioned approach that Sasnovich takes on court, parsing her form can be tricky, and a lot less meaningful than for most players. She really just falls into the category of players whose play on the given day is far more predictive of her success than anything else.
That said, she’s had a mediocre summer, winning just one main draw in four tournaments on hard courts prior to this week.
She did qualify for the third time in San Diego though and upset Belinda Bencic, who has had struggles of her own of late.
Her game is all about hammering groundstrokes and hoping she can keep the ball in the court.
The downsides are the unforced errors that come from that style, as well as a less-than-stellar serve that leaves her vulnerable to opponents pouncing on her serves and seizing control of points.
Emma Navarro Recent Form
What a year 2023 has been for the 22-year-old former college standout. Across all levels she’s managed to rack up nearly 50 wins, with a lot of success coming on clay.
Her game translates across surfaces well though, as steady play and a rock-solid backhand tends to do.
She’s picked up some strong hard-court wins as well this summer, including Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino and her first-round triumph over Jasmine Paolini.
She’s also clearly comfortable in the conditions on offer in San Diego, as she’s now won three matches without dropping a set and picking up several lopsided sets along the way.
Matchup-wise, her ability to counterpunch should come in handy against the pace Sasnovich hits with and that solid backhand isn’t a clear weakness to pick on as it can be with so many players.
I really like her chances to continue picking up wins in 2023 and improving that top-100 ranking even more.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Emma Navarro H2H
These two played a few weeks back in Cleveland in a matchup that saw Sasnovich emerge victorious in three sets.
Considering that the match went to three sets and was tied 5-5 through 10 games in that deciding set, I’m not too worried about the loss for Navarro.
I’m still confident in her ability, the matchup for her and Sasnovich’s ability to go off the boil at any given moment.
